Bayern Munich hope to bid farewell to the Münchener Olympiastadion with a "spectacular" party to celebrate their 19th domestic championship in May.

While Bayern players and officials go out of their way to insist that the title is not yet won, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is already planning a farewell bash for one of the continent's most famous stadia.

Bayern lead Schalke 04 by nine points with just four games to play in this season's Bundesliga, but skipper Oliver Kahn refused to admit the title race was over after Saturday's 3-1 win over VfL Bochum. Kahn said: "Barring a disaster, we’ll win the league now but I’ve been in this game a long time, and I know anything can happen in football. We have the ability to claim the four points, but you should never celebrate too soon in football."

While Rummenigge added: "you count your chickens after they’re hatched," the former striking legend revealed that the club hopes to have the Bundesliga shield presented at the Olympiastadion on May 14 - the final match at the old ground: "We’ll put on an impressive farewell party," said the Chairman. "We’ll say goodbye with a real extravaganza. This has been our home ground for 34 years, we’ve been tremendously successful here, so it’s only right and proper we say a big thank you."

Bayern move to the brand new Allianz Arena from next season.

Bayern Munich could be set to make a surprise bid for Celtic's on-loan Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy.

The Wales international, who is yet to learn the extent of the hamstring injury which forced him out of the win at Rangers on Sunday, has become a fans' favourite since joining the Hoops on loan from Newcastle in January.

Martin O'Neill is determined to sign the player permanently but could face competition from the German giants after Bayern executive Uli Hoeness labelled the 25-year-old "the best player on the field" following a Sunday scouting mission to Ibrox.

Even though Bellamy limped off with a hamstring strain two minutes into the second half, the watching former West Germany international was hugely impressed.

He said: "There were two or three players we had discussed and we wanted to see.

"In my opinion, Bellamy was the best player on the field."

Despite a chequered record for injuries and disciplinary matters, the former Coventry and Norwich star will not be short of offers in the summer.

His erstwhile international boss Mark Hughes has indicated Blackburn will make a bid while Birmingham may revive their interest after failing with a £6million move in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile O'Neill continues to pile the pressure on Parkhead bosses by apparently making Bellamy's transfer a deal-breaker for his own future.

Chairman Brian Quinn and chief executive Peter Lawwell continue to make positive noises but it is unknown whether Bellamy, who is rarely under-sells himself, is keen on playing in the one-dimensional SPL full time.

However, Lawwell hopes the current successful spell can help convince the player to stay in Glasgow.

Lawwell told the Daily Record: "Anyone watching Craig Bellamy on Sunday could not fail to see he is a special player.

"I'm already on record as saying we'll do everything in our power to keep him at Celtic Park.

"He will no doubt have several offers on the table but he's certainly a player everyone connected with the club wants to keep here.

"There are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration - not least where Craig wants to play his football next season.

"But, hopefully, his experience at Celtic has been an overwhelmingly positive one and this can only be a major plus in our favour."

German football is extremely poor at the moment. VFB is broke, as is alot of clubs. We are also having a foreigner problem. Im glad Bayern and VFB are doing well because thats really all germany can say for ' German teams'. The other teams consist of quick fix foreingers. Instead of signing a german player, its become standard to sign a cheap brazilian. This results in other clubs having to sign even cheaper players to stay competitive. Bayern is doing very well because they will always have the reputation of being the best german football club, and they have the biggest fan base in germany. Stuttgart had some very good german youths coming up, but they are broke too.

So basically, what im trying to say is that it is a vicious cycle. One club resorts to spending big on foreign players because they are talented and a cheaper fix, then the rest of the clubs must spend on foreingers to stay competitive. 2 Years ago, Cottbuss broke into a world record as the only team to have NO german players on their starting eleven or bench.

In a few years every team playing in the CL must have at least 4 homegrown players in their squad for the competition.

We dont need Ailton, we have Ricardo Oliveira, Júlio Baptista, Ronaldo, Adriano, Fred (Cruzeiro)... All of them are better than Ailton.
