Ivan Klasnic Press Release

Ivan Klasnic’s family lawyer, Dr. K.-Peter Horndasch, Weyhe, Bremen released the following press release on behalf of Ivan Klasnic concerning his current health situation:

“Following tests taken on 03.11.2005 in connection with an appendix operation, the Werder Bremen and Croatian international, Ivan Klasnic was diagnosed as having problems with his kidney levels. Since then, attempts have been made to reverse the problem and until just a few days ago, Ivan Klasnic and his doctors were positive that a kidney sufficiency could be avoided. Devastatingly, it is now clear that a kidney transplant will be necessary. Thankfully a suitable replacement organ has been located.

For that reason, Klasnic will remain in hospital for 10 to 12 days before returning for rehabilitation training. Doctors treating the player expect him to be available to play for the club again in 6 to 8 weeks and be back to his old self. Ivan Klasnic himself has requested that his family and himself be allowed the necessary peace and time to recover. He is extremely thankful to his fans for their support until now and he will release more information on his health and the development of his recovery process at the appropriate time.”

Klaus Allofs, Werder’s general manager commented on the news: “This is an exceptional situation which has moved all of us. He can be sure of all the support that we can offer him.”

Head coach Thomas Schaaf added: “The most important issue is that Ivan gets well and we intend to allow him the time to do that. We hope that the surgery can be carried out without problems and that Ivan is back playing football again soon.”

His bad luck is my fortune. : ) We need a new Larsson and Rosenberg is the only promising striker we got right now. He's a bit weak minded sometimes on the pitch and sometimes when it goes bad he thinks to much with his face :D so don't expect to much alltagsheld. But he is a good goal scorer when the game fits him so I hope you guys find THAT spot for him where he can really show of his potential.

Yeah, I hope so, too.
Is he good enough for Werder since he used to be on the bench at Ajax, if I am right? or said differently: Does one need to be disapointed after having failed to get John Carew?

Meh to be honest its to soon to tell. In Sweden he got his break through with Halmstad, tearing every defence he faced apart. And everyone here started to think we actually could have a nice replacement for Larsson. Then he moved to Malmö, where he was just a little better then avarage.

When he came to Ajax he had his moments. For some periods he scored constantly and shined the brightest in the team and in some periods he caught some rough patches.

He is a very pacey, fast explosive striker. He mostly scores catching a throw ball and not so much from one touch opportunities in the penalty area since he's not that strong of a player.

Though if you want him to play with Klose, and if his got Diego behind him, I think he has a real good chance of doing well with Bremen.

Rosenberg is a good forward. Does that mean that Klose is leaving?
No, it doesn´t unfortunately, Klasnić had serious medical issues, Hugo Almeida will leave at the end of the season and they are left on Klose and Hunt, that is not enough.

mm mark plus Rosenberg and Klose are very different players. Unless Bremen want to change their game I don't see Rosenberg as Klose`s replacement. Though perhaps if he does real good this half season, but Klose should be untouchable during the January window..

I would not be so ure that Hugo Almeida will leave. Werder is very interested in keeping him, but they think the price (3 million €) is too high. Klasnic will hopefully return to the end of the season and Werder already offered him a new contract, even if his healing takes longer.

Rosenberg has not been bought as a replacement for Klose. He was just meant to fill the gap we had after Zidan's move to Mainz and Klasnic's disease.

At the moment it is really unclear with whom we will be left at the end of the season. Klasnic and Klose are two players who will possibly go away even if it looks more like Klose stayin' in Bremen at the moment. But if not, there have to be some serious reinforcements and Werder will probably pay more than ever before for a player.
