Even if this is a bit like the days of 1990s Usenet -- where people created new splinter newsgroups dedicated to pet topics that no one would go to but themselves as a way of making "virtual shrines" -- the truth is that this thread has been given life if only by the debate over it. In most cases, threads like this left alone die in obscurity.
If people truly want to see this thread go away, ignoring it is really the best action to take.
