The famous “a game of two halves” saying provides an accurate description of Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Genoa.
Under the cosh and a goal down for large spells of the first period, Antonio Conte’s men appeared a different prospect after the break and swung the encounter back in their favour courtesy of territorial dominance and sharp finishing.
Luigi De Canio had clearly told his men to keep an eye on danger man Andrea Pirlo and were relatively successful in their efforts, restricting the midfielder to just 56 useful touches compared to the 109 he enjoyed last time out against Udinese.
But with 63% possession and 20 shots – four more than Genoa – the Bianconeri had plenty of opportunities to trouble Frey in the Rossoblu goal. Emanuele Giaccherini led the way with four attempts, while Mirko Vucinic made a telling contribution from the bench, weighing in with a goal and an assist.
