Still don't understand - so thousands years ago there was a guy who decided to go up in the north for no reason, then he found there a cave under the big tree and in that cave he was caught by the roots of that magic tree for no reason?

When Maester Aemon sailed for the Wall in 233 AC, he was escorted by King Aegon V's friend, Ser Duncan the Tall of the Kingsguard, and accompanied by an "honor guard" of recruits for the Night's Watch. These were two hundred men and prisoners, among them Brynden Rivers and archers from his Raven's Teeth.[7][1]
Brynden rose to the position of Lord Commander of the Night's Watch in 239 AC.[7] However, he disappeared while ranging beyond the Wall in 252 AC.[1]
"George Raymond Martin (he later adopted the confirmation name Richard, at thirteen years old)[6] was born on September 20, 1948,[7] in Bayonne, New Jersey,[8] the son of longshoreman Raymond Collins Martin and his wife Margaret Brady Martin. He has two younger sisters, Darleen and Janet."
This genius bastard has set up the foundation for a massive prequel to GoT. They really should look into making one after GoT ends.
A prequel would be great, because when reading the first two books long time ago (didnt care for them really, he isnt a interesting writer) and seeing the series avidly, it allways fascinated me how the lore and past of this world seemed more eventful then their actual current tale.
