Book version of Robb seems more fleshed out, as it should be, but I still dig show Robb too, get what he is doing even if they don't always clarify it. He has done an immense job IMO. Better then his dumbass father.
Richard Madden has done a great job, I agree, and Robb is probably my favorite character(in books as well as the show).

And his father was not a dumbass.

Dumbass for being so naive and gullible. Was a good man, good father and great chieftan, but was more lamb then clever enough wolf.
His biggest traits were also his biggest weakness, yeah, but wouldn't call him a dumbass. I'm just a sucker for the good guys, I guess.

I still wouldn't call him a dumbass for being a different kind of leader. He never wanted that job, and knew it wasn't for him.

If you have not watched episode 3.5, don't open.

They've really ruined book Robb in the show, IMO. First they made him seemed like a spoiled brat by marrying Talisa, thus screwing over a marriage pact, just by "being in love". Whereas he was devastated in the books having learned of his brothers "deaths" and injured in battle, thus succumbing to a certain highborn woman and marrying her not just for love, but because he took her maidenhood away without marriage and wanted to save her honor, by you know, marrying her.

Now they handled this Karstark execution without any sort of honor. In the books Karstark practically forced him to behead him if he was a true king and insisted he swing the sword. This was closer to the books than the Talisa business, but still made me cringe how easily he made the decision in the show..There was a lot more complexity to Robb's actions in the books as compared to the show. :-/
I hate Talisa for that reason. Like Ros she's a stupid addition, far too sentimental, whereas in the book you really get a better sense of Robb's trying to navigate through the position he's in and trying to be his father.

Plus in the books, Rob is a boy just a few years older than Sansa.

I remember that. But what does that have to do with Barristan?
Jorrah was asking Barristan about the King's Council, basically he was sniffing around to see if Barristan knew the details of the plot King Robert hatched to kill Dany. Ser Barristan told hiim that he didn't sit on the council and basically Jorrah left it at that. But he is obviously worried that Barristan can tell Danerys about his role in the plot.

When Jorrah left Westeros the head of the Kingsguard had a seat on the Small Council, but Barristan had long since abandoned that seat, iirc.
