If we get rid of some of the below juve standard players we have in midfield and replace them with D'Agostino, that's a step up no matter how you look at it. Yes, focus on the defense first...but D'Agostino would have to fight for his place just like all the others in the team. Competition is a good thing. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather have D'Agostino as a backup instead of one of Tiago/Almiron/Poulsen. We don't have ANY registas in the team right now unless you count Tiago who is hot and cold. Why not get someone like D'Agostino. They could fund his transfer by selling excess midfielders.

That is a decent article about Mr D'agostino.

I like him. Not just the fact that he is clearly capable of creating chances for our forwards, which is something which we have been sorely lacking for most of this last season...the other reason why I like him is the fact that he is left footed. And we have been playing without a natural left footed playmaker in the team. De Ceglie can cross well, at times, but his defensive frailities make him a liability, and also, he rarely looks where he is crossing...just concentrates on putting a decent ball into the danger area.

Its surprising and refreshing that we are after Gaetano. I hope we get him. Camo was dead most the season. Marchionni is nowhere near the required standard. Nedved shone in brief patches, but it was his spirit and tenacity rather than technique which made him a threat. On the left, and in the middle, we have had little in terms of creativity. Molinaro is not even worth mentioning...as he finds even simple 5 yard straight passes a bane all too often.

The idea of Marchisio, Momo and Poulsen...with Diego and Gaetano is mouth watering. Mix that with players capable of finishing and our offensive unit is dramatically improved.

Which leaves just the defence, the flanks especially, and also the attack, but I only mention the attack because Trezeguet is a possible departure, and Giovinco, though I hate to say it, let alone think it, is a possibility for being used in a part exchange deal...Still if we are playing with an offensive midfielder, Diego, then it makes sense to have a backup, and Sebastian can also play where Del Piero plays...so tactically, it makes no sense to let him leave.

how much would that equate to?
It depends.
When you sell 1/2 of a player in an exchange deal, you usually sell the 1/2 for more than it's worth.
We sold 1/2 of Lanza for 3.5m and it's not like Lanza was worth 7m last summer. Or when we bought half of Criscito for 7.5m.

Officially it may turn out that half of Paolucci was sold for 5m and half of Lanza 3.5m which will make D'Agostino officially bought for 16.5m. But in reality i would say around 3m for half of Paolucci and 2m for half of Lanzafame.

Anyway, as Dom said, Paolucci and Lanzafame are players we don't need AT ALL and since we own only half of them, we were never gonna get some good money out of them.
I'll count only the 8m eur cash, which would make this a very solid deal.

Poulsen/Tiago will probably leave.

Both of them didn't have a good season and both are playing for their countries and certainly don't want to jeopardise themselves by sitting on the bench when World Cup 2010 is coming, especially when a strong competitor has just arrived and compete with you.

so about 14m? that sounds OK, maybe a tad high

yep, makes sense...in that case Tiago seems the likely candidate to leave...Poulsen is a definite starter for Denmark

Exactly. Poulsen is starting for Denmark nomatter what. Tiago is the one who is leaving, it's almost definite now with the arrival of D'Ag.

At least one of them won't play at the world cup, hopefully Tiago :D
Portugal and Denmark are in the same group, together with Sweden, and for now it looks like Portugal stands no chance to win the first place and will have a tough time winning the second place.

As for Poulsen, if Denmark makes it to the WC he'll certainly play there. He's a regular and it's not like there is any competition for his spot in Denmark NT

Ok, now seriously..... it will be harder to sell either of them. Poulsen is getting 3m eur a year and Tiago is getting 2.6m eur. Not many, if any, teams will be willing to match these wages, or even offer close to it, and if Poulsen and Tiago care about money more than about playing, then they'd rather choose to sit on the bench and fight for their place then to be sure starters for double less wages.
