Even in the great Barcelona, which gives so many chances to its youngsters, hardly anyone makes a debut in the senior team at 18 or got to play more than 2-3 matches before turning 20. Hell, even Messi had only 7 La Liga appearances when he was Appelt's age.

Challenge our first team players. Train with them everyday, develop and prove if he's good enough in that level or not. I think that would be much better for him than playing in the much criticized Italian primavera.

I'm fairly sure he's already trained with the first team since joining Juventus, ultimately game time is what helps players gain experience. I'd rather he had 90 minutes a week with the primavera than sit in the stands for Juventus matches.

I guess we have to agree to disagree. I think he'd be much better off in training day in and day out with quality professional football players than playing against 17 year old kids. And also, if we go with what he did in Brazil, being a star at 17 and him being awarded 2nd best midfielder, I think he belongs there.

He has a reputation of possessing brilliant potential, not just on the word of a team mate or two in the primavera, but our own Mr Sandreani spoke very highly of him, as well as a couple of other notable football people.

Anyone who has followed the team this season, should understand by now that Conte has no leaning towards playing any players who are not match sharp and acclimatized to italian football and the tactics he deploys. Gabriel hasn't played competitively for 6 months, and will need more than a month to get match sharp, start putting his training into practice in competitive matches (Baroni and the other youth team coaches follow Conte's model of the senior team) and improving his italian skills. Conte prefers to play those he knows he can rely upon, rather than those with the most talent on paper alone.

I am glad Gabriel is playing and look forward to seeing the Buoy kid in action alongside him and that monster Chibsah(who looks nearer 35 than 18) in the middle of the park. Those three could mirror, potentially, our own Marchisio/Pirlo/Vidal midfield.
