Well... He's not really a defensive player (i.e. we'd still need a DM in the midfield, he can't do it on his own), he just has good strength and stamina, making him a great box-to-box CM. He's dynamic, a powerful runner and shooter, and of course, a wonderful passer with a great range. Next to Pirlo and Melo, it'd make for a beautiful midfield.
You got a crush? 
I'd say he's more like a more technically gifted Palombo, though not as good defensively.
Or a more intelligent Melo, but with a bit less muscle.
He's not quite a pure defensive midfielder in terms of positioning and movement, but he's not that far off it.
