I just dont understand why we dont just make an agreement with a top coach who is going to the World Cup and could be free after. I would rather have Capello, Lippi or Sven. Even if they miss out of helping us rebuild and start preseason late they are a hell of alot better then the ppl we are linked with. Like if we bought players before the world cup based on advice from one of the coaches then they could come after the WC and start their work. Thats what I would do if I was hiring.

I dont think if u give a hack an extra 2 months to work he will do anything amazing in that time. Look at Man City.. Mancini came in mid season and moved them up un the league so they just barely missed CL. A good coach can do alot.

If we have Marotta and Agnelli to do our transfers and make smart buys why would it be bad to wait on a good coach. We should be thinking for the next 3 or 4 years. Not just get a manager cuz he is free a month earlier then a quality one.
Worst comes to worst and we screw up our Europa league qualification.

hohoho! not quite what i was suggesting, Red...but we are heading into a debate about natural capital, intelligence versus muscle, good versus evil...if I go any deeper into this. half of my closest brethren are englishman, honourable, rugged, bullish types...artistic, intelectually intriguing, drunks...patent attorneys...brickies...cage fighters...english infantry soldiers...a wicked mix. Whilst it makes sense for me to have more english buddies than scottish buddies, having spent most my life in england, the 'decent' scots I have encountered, whilst having the same sense of honour and integrity about them which i love in m y rough justice english mates, they have also appeared less interesting, as in not much variance in their character. So yes...more straight...more open...louder...but less interesting. Is how I see the scots. I revere the Warrior spirit in any blood line, and it remains in the english bloodlines...its just the english blood has been altered more, added to, altered, mixed with others. I like brains and I like heart and i like muscle and i like Writers...I certainly have no serious contempt for the Scots, as I do for much of the irish. And that is born of meeting too many irishmen who hate me because i am english. That kind of ignorant idioacy has grated at me over the years, and continues to do so even here in melbourne...A scotsman makes fun of an englishman, though its more benign playful banter, whereas the irish are more grievous with their 'banter', and much more eager to speak to the english with their fists...

well his Sampdoria and Chievo wreaked havoc in Italy, even Atalanta were a very tough nut to crack during his days there...as it is right now, all the very top coaches are not available, it does look like we gave a hard try for Benitez...in that case, you have to start from somewhere, and Del Neri has a solid track record and is coming off a dream season.

Even though a Benitez deal at 30 m smacked of desperation, we shouldn't be swinging to the other end of the spectrum with Gigi Del Neri. He's not the man for the job. This appointment is no different than the one of Ranieri when we got promoted from Serie B. The only difference is Del Neri is an even less successful version of Claudio. At this point in time, this Juventus team needs a winner who knows the kind of discipline it takes to achieve goals on the pitch. Not somebody whose got 25 years of experience with nothing to show for it. It's just going to widen the gap between us and where we need to be. Prandelli and Gasperini are the kind of appointments who would've been a step in the right direction because they're still young and have newer ideas, with a very strong focus on youth.

As if we need now to make that jump in quality needed to push us closer to the summit...This is encouraging, but also unrealistic, for we are the 7th best team in Italy, embarassed in europe, humiliated in Italy. And not ALL of this is down to the board or the managers. Some of it due to our squad.

I agree that the benitez rumours smacked of desperation. and also agree that we still hold the allure of A top club in italy and the world as a whole. I'd even agree that Gasperini and Prandelli would be more worthy of optimism and tentative hope for the beginning of a brighter future. BUT...we must accept what state we are in presently. and we must also accept that many of the top managers are simply too tied up in other projects to jump ship presently. That may change after the world cup has finished, and if we were waiting on a Cappello or a Lippi or hiddink, then fine. But I don't think we are waiting on any of those fiends...i think the board want a manager in as soon as possible, with the sole aim of 4th or above, for next season, a decent campaign in europe and a serious attempt to win the coppa italia. First and foremost, the team needs a bigger overhaul than ever before in my lifetime. So the transfers and appreciation of our youth team is essential.

I am hardly Pro- Del Neri, and I would prefer Gasperini or Prandelli, but Del Neri is NOT like Zach. If Marrotta can bring in decent players for Del Neri to achieve 4th with, then it makes sense to suggest that with a massively superior budget, and massiely superior club prestige, taking history into account, they could do much better with us...Its a risk, as ALL management acquisitions are a risk, but I'll simply be happy when we have a new coach, a new transfer mogul and we begin rebuilding...

Luigi Del Neri is definetly not my favourite choice. But I guess, we could benefit from a good Marotta/Del Neri partnership and some continuity. Our situation is soooo determined by the accumulation of past mistakes. Deschamps gone, and hiring Ciro and Zac. I'm not utterly pessimistic, but you could be afraid the the line failures are about to continue. I don't know much about him, I just hope is a disciplind no nonsense coach.

Is Marrotta, Bettega and and Agnelli capable of using funds wisely and start bulding on players very diffrent from poulsen, tiago and hence forth?

In my persoal opinion, our board once more fail to look at our current squad, and do whats best weith tha. The core players of Buffon, Chiellini, Melo, Marchisio, Giovonco, Candreva, Camoranesi(yes, 1 more year from him) fits the 4231 the best, and with a 1 winger addition that can play both sides, camos would not play so much, that he would get injured all the time.

This squad suits Prandelli soooo much, but no, lets get a 442 coach so we have gone 442-4312-442 in one year. Spending 50M on the one in the middle.

You could trim the squad becuase most of the time you would only play with one striker. The defense would have to fixed once more.

Hiring a Del Neri is just a step back. The problem with the management is that so far, they themselves have not known what they expect of the team. Their goals are unclear. And moving ahead with such confusion is what has led to the likes of Hiddink staying away. Even Benitez for that matter may have sensed the indecision, and at a time like that he rather deal with the incompetency he faces at Liverpool given how long he's been there, than come into a new environment and deal with the same issues. Yes, our management is to blame on some fronts. When you're looking to switch formations and have acquired players accordingly, it's only fair to give that set of personnel some continuity. A large portion of why our team's performances have been less than acceptable this season has been lack of continuity. Hopefully, Agnelli being close to Juve would help undo the mess we currently find ourselves in. I like the appointment of Marotta, he seems capable.

Zaccheroni is probably the most incompetent coach one could come across, but I have to agree with him when he says this squad doesnt need an entire overhaul. It's what we tried to do last year, by bringing in a bunch of new players without duly assigning what was expected of them. Couple that with injuries over the course of the year and you'll see why we haven't played as a unit.

Just as importantly, we must consider that we shifted the entire onus of team play on to new acquisitions like Diego - which only made it harder for them to perform, when really it should've been a gradual shift of responsibility from the old guard to the new. Even now, I think the board would be making a huge error in dismantling the team as a whole. What they should do instead is identify their core, while retaining the old guard to help keep the team together and let them gel into a formation, that currently is screaming to be a 4-2-3-1.

We all know Prandelli is a better fit for that formation because Del Neri would be more comfortable deploying a 4-4-2. It's only going to be another short sighted decision, quick fix solution because we're going to have to massively re-invest in the mercato, when all we should be looking at doing is plugging the holes on the wing and in defense to better suit the 4-2-3-1 - that too without a revolution in the squad. I wouldnt lay great emphasis on the fact that we finished 7th. That's got more to do with our mental preparation than quality at hand. This season has been an anomally and would not set us up for more disappointment if our approach is right. Which is why, the focus on youth this season is all the more imperative, with Del Piero soon to pass on the mantle as the crucible of this team. The likes of Giovinco, Diego, Caceres, Iaqo and new generation players need a coach to believe in them and let them play football the only way they know how. Unfortunately, Del Neri even if i was to avoid looking at his achievements or the lack of them, is not the kind of man who can breathe life into the new generation waiting in the wings.
