Going by general thinking, I'm not sure how it works myself. Benitez understands Italian football mentality at least.

The only way he would last years is if he is winning, so surely that wouldn't be a problem?
ok, and what if Zac gets us to fourth this season and gets his new contract
we will be in the same mess next year
don't forget Ciro started of well last season too
or in the best case scenario Zac gets to third next year, do you really believe we are going to sack him
I doubt it, we will never win any silverware with Zac but maybe he can get us second or third places and our board can live with that

I don't think third will be enough, it depends on the outlay. It also depends on the mentality of the directors, they can talk a good game about wanting important objectives but hire cheap option coaches.

The only thing I don't like about Benitez is his tactical stubbornness. Speak to Liverpool fans and it is a major gripe, even when it is clear something isn't working he is loath to change his shape with attacking options.

The hardest thing is going away to the provincial sides and trying to come away with results. The PL has become more and more tactical over the years, with teams going to places like the Emirates and Anfield trying not to lose, so that wouldn't be a new problem in Serie A.

He's not even as talented as Martin O'Neil? Give me a break. Martin O'Neil is a good coach, but you're stretching it a lot now.

As Nick said in the post above, in Italy he wouldn't have to deal with transfers. I believe his tactics suits Serie A better and with some more width in this team, his 4-2-3-1 will be perfect for us.
Indeed, mate...as we have played variations of this formation, and this exact formation, a fair few times this season, and we have destroyed all in our path? What juventus have you been watching this season??? and the last season when we were stolidly a 4-4-2, and the season before, and the season before, and the season before...feel free to take me back to a time when we played a 4-2-3-1. In fact, take me back to a time when we have played anything other than variations of 4-4-2...

as to the sense, and basic logic of suggesting that as Rafa wouldnt be in charge of transfers, of course he would be amazing, again, it's lunacy. For Rafa is renowned for WANTING certain players. Like most decent managers. I doubt very much that Cappello when he was with us, or Lippi, just said to Moggi...'ok, mate, give me what you please, and I will make them a winning team! ti amo, luciano...come sempre'...Signing a striker who is already one of the best in the world, and then him showing, he remains one of the best in the world, is not a masterstoke of managerial genius, its MONEY. And the recent success in europe. And Steven Gerrard. And the striker positions at the top teams other than liverpool already filled...I like Torres. He is special. But I would prefer Rooney and Tevez. A player at the peak of his game, at the true apex of his talent, goes to the TOP TEAM, not a support act...

the talk of Prandelli coming is preferable to the talk of Zach staying. Though I would still prefer...Wenger, Cappello, Hiddink, Gasperini/Blanc, Prandelli...in that order. And obviously, no need to remind me that availability is a key, even totally obtuse factor, in some of those suggestions.

He understands the italian football mentality.... 40-50 years ago!!
I am not in to "champagne football", but the tactic of Benitez is so shitty and unbelievable boring..
He is never near winning the PL and only won the CL because of the Ref's!!

Benitez got a lot of money for players, but bought mediocre people like Lukas. Maybe he does syncwell with our club? :p
