True. The coach is the most important.
Spending around 80m eur won't be a precedent though. Our team sucks and we failed to achieve our objectives. We won't play CL.
The last time we thought our team sucks and we didn't play CL (after we came back from serie B) we ended up spending 70m eur during the summer and winter mercato.
Minus sales, we only invested around 46m euros that summer. Quite different from the 80m + sales the media are telling us we will spend this summer. Add to that we can expect less TV money next season (8 to 10m less as a result of the new collective deal), as well as +20m less as a result of no CL, and you understand y I am pessimistic about talk of 80m + sales.
Its all about what kind of club we want to be. After all, Roma have always been Roma while Juve have a reputation to protect as being the biggest club in Italy. We can't act like Roma or Fiorentina on the transfer market, we're just two different clubs. We could go towards being a club like Roma but we would lose so much potential fans. If we want to be the European top club we've always been then we can't compare ourselves to Roma.
And honestly, Roma were lucky this season. I don't think they are able to compete for the scudetto every year with their squad. Juventus as a team have completely different expectations, we are expected to be up there and we are expected to have a superstars on our team.
For god's sakes, we have 29 titles while Roma have, what, two?
You missed my point.
I used Roma as an example because they are a team who are weaker on paper than Juventus, investing absolutely nothing last summer, yet they finished way ahead of us. Whereas Roma's management know how to get the best out of their squad, this seasons Juventus is full of players who are massively under performing.
Until we have competent management who are able to get our players to perform to their abilities, spending 80m will do nothing for us. I am not stating we should not spend money, merely that having proper people in charge (at all levels of management), will do more for Juventus than 80m ever will.
That is y I stated even a modest budget (the rumour of 27m + sales) is enough to strengthen Juventus
IF we have the right people in charge. Obviously I would prefer a higher budget, but if the choice is between a giant transfer kitty with another Ciro/Zac, or a modest budget with a top coach, I would always choose the latter.
