The Old Lady Held By The Young Boys

In a friendly game played at Bern, Juventus obtained a 1-1 draw against the Swiss side thanks to a goal by Ruben Olivera.

Without many of its main players due to the national team commitments, Juventus managed to equalize 1-1 against Young Boys at Bern on Friday evening, in one of the same stadiums which will host the European Championships next year.

The home team took the lead in the 35th minute thanks to Joao Paulo who beat Belardi after avoiding the off-side trap. However, the Bianconeri equalized soon after as Olivera headed past the goalkeeper of the Young Boys in the 45th minute.

Coach Claudio Ranieri played his best players, which were available, in the first half before replacing them in the second period with the young players from the Primavera team.

The only player to remain in the pitch for the entire game was Alessandro Del Piero, who almost scored towards the end of the match with one of his trademark free-kicks.

Juve draw thanks to Olivera

The match in Switzerland against Young Boys ended in a draw. On the synthetic pitch at Berne’s Stade de Suisse, one of the facilities to be used in the Euro 2008 finals, the final result was 1-1. It all happened in the first half. The hosts went one up thanks to Joao Paulo, and Olivera equalized at the end of the half.

In front of 16,000 people, Ranieri started with this line-up: Belardi in goal, Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Zebina and Molinaro in defence, Salihamidzic, Tiago, Zanetti and Nedved in midfield, and the Del Piero-Olivera duo up front. In the second half, Almiron, Nocerino, Grygera and youths Esposito, Bassaoulè and Pasquato all came on.

Ranieri was satisfied after the game: “These matches are useful for improving the squad's cohesiveness - Ranieri commented after the game -. The spirit was that of a friendly, both teams played well and it ended with an entertaining draw. And no injuries, which was the most important thing”.

Nice action for Olivera´s goal.

I don´t think these games are worthless. Players which don´t play much get a good run and we earn some money.
