Defenders: Eric Abidal (Lyon), Jean-Alain Boumsong (Newcastle United), Pascal Chimbonda (Wigan), William Gallas (Chelsea), Gael Givet (Monaco), Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich), Mikael Silvestre (Manchester United), Lilian Thuram (Juventus)

Midfielders Vikash Dhorasoo, (Paris Saint Germain), Alou Diarra (Lens), Claude Makelele (Chelsea), Florent Malouda (Lyon), Patrick Vieira (Juventus), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid)

No spots for Nicolas Anelka,Phillipe Mexes & Robert Pires.I would have picked Mexes over Boumsong anyday & Chimbonda is a really strange choice.Gotta feel for Pires though.

A very strong squad, I'm mostly satisfied but Anelka over Cisse anyday and Mexes for just about any of the other defenders. It will please a lot of people that Ribery made it.

Let's now try and not suck in Germany.

EDIT: Silvestre, wtf?

interesting team, i am surprised barthez was called. he hasnt played that well and then there where some scandals with him, he got a charge if i remember right and was not allowed to play for a while.

but where is Ludovic Giuly? his a fantastic player

funny is that they still rely on zidane so much. yeah his a good player and etc but his old and new players should come. also mexes has had a pretty good season, yeah maybe not starter but a good backup for defens imo. and as i said giuly, he can play also on the midfield, they could play like henry trez upfront and giuly on the right wing, like he plays in barca, a bit more deep. his a worker, trez only stands there and waits for the chanses, they have called too many defenders, instead of calling some midfielders.

Pires is out due to his scuffle with Domenech, but Guily is a strange ommision.

I disagree with some of Domenech's choices. I would've included both Giuly and Pires, and Mexes is a much better defender than Boumsong. Boumsong isn't even a first team regular at Newcastle anymore.

I'm told that Ribery is even better than Guily, but I don't think I've seen enough of him to judge. I don't know about Pires - sure, if there is room, but I'd be hesitant to drop anyone there for him; Wiltord maybe.

Mexes over Boumsong is an obvious choice though. Boumsong has been so rubbish this season that I've heard him credited with singlehandedly losing Graeme Souness his job!

Well Ribery has impressed me every single time ive seen him play & i have some vids of his,ill upload them tommorrow.Wiltord on thye other hand has been on exceptional form this season for Lyon.

Graeme Souness lost his job coz he was just plain crap:D Boumsong most definately doesnt derserve to go to the world cup.

Boring squad and if they get anywhere near the closing stages it will be all down to Henry if they can utilise a counter-attacking approach Arsenal have in their CL run.

They have the personnel to play somewhere between 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. A 4-3-3 because that is what Lyon do and they could make use of all those wide forwards (Malouda, Govou, Wiltord and Guily). But then they have so many orthodox forwards that a 4-4-2 is the only logical option with Henry, Trezeguet, Saha and Cisse. Yet the best striker in the World - Henry and he has always been successful alone.

A 4-3-3 hides the fact they have no playmaker any more as gone are glory days with Zidane supported with Pires/Dugarry. I don't count Zidane, Dhorasoo or Ribery from this squad as the answer. But inevitably, the 4-4-2 wins out with Zidane shunted to the left and Henry's space invaded upfront. No creation in midfield with a Vieira-Makelele pairing.

It needs a clever person than Domenach/Old-boys brigade (Thuram, Zidane & Co.) to work out this mess.

Prediction: France to be as sterile as the last two tournaments.

Giuly never impressed or did well with les bleus , the way the team plays was not suited for him.
Was not a big surprise to be left out (he was only a hopeful for the WC selection because he plays for a barca in spotlight)
