That would be 10 times better than the genius Mellberg move

starter or backup, as long as he's for free it's a fantastic one compared to the defence we have currently

We signed Canna last year on a free, Gallas is 3 years younger. He would be nice as a backup.

Not too bad.

The chances of him signing as a backup are incredibly slim, I can almost guarantee he'd make a fuss about it. Not that I don't think he's good enough to start based purely on ability.

Juve serious about Gallas Thursday 10 June, 2010

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus are reportedly very close to signing France international centre-back William Gallas on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at Arsenal and his existing deal will not be renewed, sparking interest across Europe.

Paris Saint Germain and Panathinaikos are among the frontrunners, but Juventus are said to have an edge and even expect to close a deal on Monday.

Juventus' general manager Beppe Marotta is apparently prepared to offer Gallas a two-year contract worth €2m a season.

The former Chelsea defender likes the proposal and more importantly the project set out by Juventus.

The Bianconeri are overhauling their squad this summer.

Simone Pepe was announced as their first signing of the summer yesterday and more are expected to follow.

If we got Bonnucci, gettting Gallas too would be nice, gurantee quality despite his age, because Bonnucci is totally unproven.

He got stripped of his captaincy, and took a hissy fit and cried vs Birmingham (he was captain at the time) over a pk.

I can't help but question his mentality. Is this the type of player we need in our dressing room?

He would arrive as a starter. He wouldn't take a back up role, as there are many clubs who could offer him a starting position and probably higher wages as well.

On the plus side, he is good player with plenty of experience, and as long as he stays injury free, he could certainly do the job for us. I just can't help but think of the incidents mentioned earlier.
