Not sure if it’s still an ongoing issue for you guys or fixed ifself by now but i’m also on iOS majority of the time and never had to deal with this, maybe it has to do with the forum theme version or even browser(Safari in my case) that you are using?

The theme version i’ve been on for a very long time now and got along with is the ‘Juventuz test Marty’, works well for me on iPhone, maybe try it out.

Yeah it might be theme related, I've not considered that.

Unfortunately, it's not theme related. I checked with various themes on Chrome and Safari but still getting the same result.

I can't quote on my Mac. Newest update too. Using Safari.

Yup you are correct. Does not work from Safari on Mac. Works from Chrome.

OK I just found something. If you click the "Toggle BB Code" quotes work fine in Safari. At least I think so, let's try it.
