    Renault teams are truly fucked. According to TJ13 (usually reliable) many engine parts will fail when being pushed to only 75% capacity, they can only 'guarantee' 250km (one GP is about ~300km) on an engine (5 engines for the season) and it will take 20 weeks (British GP) for them to rectify the engine problems. Ricciardo said Newey is 'going back to the drawing board'.

    Will be interesting to see what happens. I just hope they won't get some BS special consideration only for them.

    'Michael Schumacher responding to instructions'



    NEW DELHI: The signs are good at the moment. Doctors have started weaning Michael Schumacher off induced coma and according to a French newspaper, the seven-time F1 champion was 'blinking' during the first stage of brain tests.

    L'Equipe cited 'very reliable sources', saying Schumacher had undergone a number of neurological tests since Monday and he has responded positively to all of them.

    Schumacher had been placed in artificial coma after suffering severe brain injury in a near-fatal skiing accident on December 29 in the French resort of Meribel. Shutting down function gave the brain time to heal. The French sports daily revealed that medics had started the process to end his coma by gradually reducing the dosage of powerful anaesthetic drugs being administered.

    The daily wrote: "After gradually reducing the sedation of the patient, the team of Professor Emmanuel Gay (who is overseeing Schumacher's treatment) has been doing neurological tests since Monday. During the first stage, the patient blinked." Sky News also quoted sources saying Schumacher was responding to instructions.

    Professor Jean-Luc Truelle told L'Equipe that once the patient opens his eyes there would be a "re-establishment of some kind of communication, which we verify through simple commands," such as 'open your eyes, shut your eyes, squeeze your hand'.

    "Schumacher appears to show this type of reawakening," the French daily said. Earlier on Thursday, Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm confirmed that Schumacher was being brought around from his coma.

    They don't have that luxury, unless they are somehow managing to do secret testing. It's not like last year where the car was mostly the same as the years before, especially the engine. Now we have a completey new engine, new gearbox, new ERS system, new braking system, new aero etc. Unless they are incredibly arrogant/self believing there is no way they are sandbagging. Even if they were, they wouldn't purposely go to the effort of setting the car on fire and completing only 21 laps. Last year they did like 300-400 laps...

    Their problem is two things; the Renault engine is basically a failure and is going to take many weeks/months to get to where the other teams are at right now. Along with this, the car has been designed too 'extreme' i.e. too aggressive and not enough cooling exacerbating the engine problems. They'll probably have to re-design some parts of the car for extra cooling at the expense of some downforce. Newey has had some problems like this in the past. He is not known for making overly reliable cars, and often will trade off some reliability for speed. Clearly he went too far here and will have to take some big steps to rectify the problem.
