Funny how he praises Milan's youth sector. He must be having a laugh. It's only the last two years they've invested there, and seemingly with mediocre talents brought in. Oduamadi anyone?
Also, concerning Pato. He was a known quantity with a lot of hype before Milan signed him. It's not as if their "excellent scouting system" uncovered him under some rock.

They didn't need to discover him. They needed someone to follow him, talk to him and convince him to sign for Milan. Pato had only 10 professional matches in his career before they decided to pay big money for him. That means that they had someone following him and telling the Milan board that the 17 year old kid is worth the money.

P.S: Kaka was only 21 yo when Milan got him from Brazil. Who was the last 21 year old that we got from abroad and at least made the starting XI?

Italian football is all about instant gratification & success, so there's no surprise with us hardly finding any decent prospects.

If we put a scout in each country what difference does it make, because wonderkids cost a lot of money and I don't remember the last time Juve went out and bought an Aguero, Pato, Neymar, etc. In fact it probably has never happened, we don't work that way. If you are talking about taking chances on young players who show a lot talent then that is fine, but then you come into the issue of non-EU players (what a waste to use it on a flop South American kid rather than an established player), and the fact that we have often looked to Italy (both Italian and otherwise - Italy isn't just Italian players) and Europe for players whilst taking the odd gamble on cheap South Americans with EU passports. We are never going to be like Udinese or Catania who are clubs with extremely limited finances who never do anything and just turn over players as soon as any of them reach a certain level, so what is the point in us looking at players who are not in that top bracket like I just mentioned? Our philosophy hasn't really changed, but the mediocrity of the last season is being used to try to enforce ideas about having some kind of worldwide scouting network. And besides, having a designated scout doesn't mean that this is the only point of reference, these are just chief scouts, there are contact points in different areas, ex-players and guys on commission.
Juventus youth chief Carlos Vargas: We want our own Drogba
Juventus youth scout Carlos Vargas says they're getting serious about unearthing talent in Africa.
Vargas is in charge of U20 recruitment at Juve and admits an African striker is a priority.
"I want a Drogba," he says.
"The Ivorian, Eto'o, Adebayor ... Today the big strikers are born in Africa, we have a research facility for youth talent that even Real Madrid and Barcelona cannot boast."
Vargas also admits Anderlecht superkid Romelu Lukaku is a Juve target.

Why do we need 20 scouts in Italy? Italy is not that big! Had we been playing in the Chinese or Brazilian league, that might have made sense, seeing as how enormous both countries are! We also need scouts in Argentina, some parts of Eastern Europe, and Africa. This spread is ridiculously unimaginative!
