It's a closer game than I thought it would be.
Brett Favre, the Quarterback for Green Bay, is playing with a fractured thumb on his throwing hand. That's one tough SOB right there. It's hard enought to throw a footgball when your hand is healthy, but to do it with a broken thumb is amazing, especially since his father passed away a couple of weeks ago suddenly, and he goes out on a Monday Night and throws for 400 yards and four touchdowns.
I hate Green bay, but Favre is an amazing player.

We do indeed have a league.. No offense to them but they are bloody awful... Though im sure they have produced the odd good player.
My point was more that you said it was a world sport and inc the uk as a part of that.
The fact is that allthough we have a league (as we do an AM Football legue)
we are not good at it and no one takes any notice of the sport in this country and there is next to no coverage in any kind of media.
Winter sports and the uk dont mix.. They are not our thing.
I understand why you are defensive, but sadly its an argument you cannot win and a prejudice you have to live with .. there ae allways idiots.. that see a persons country rather than the person.

That was a GREAT game. Physical, dramatic, very heated and emotional.
Steve McNair, the Quarterback for Tennessee, has been playing with severe injuries to his knees shoulders, and ankle all this year. In fact, his Ankle is suffering from internal bleeding as recently as a week ago.
Serge, have i for one second dissed any of your sports? Especially your beloved American Football? Ive repeatedly and expressly stated the fact that every sport today is commercial and a buisness and there is no harm in making it grow. But there is no doubt in my mind that the US is elitist when it comes to such things. And i do feel its an atittude that msut change. That does not in anyway attack America as a nation. Or condemn its people. You just seem to be overly anxious of thinking that im criticising you and your country. Its almost like having a conversation or a debate in which one is unable to open their mind to the possibility of another's thoughts. Im not asking you to agree with me, but i am expressing my opinions on something that does to a certain extent tick me off. Simply because this is how I see it.

Actually, Great Britain is in the 2nd division for the IIHF world under-20 championships, so it may be a few years before they move up into the 1st division and eventually move into the World Junior Championship bracket, so at least there are some young players who are playing.
I know it's an argument I can't win, Paul, but all I'm saying is that in a place like this, especially when you have the opportunity to look at your post and think twice before you hit "submit reply", the old adage "If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it at all" should apply, at least when it comes to peoples origins or country. We're here to talk football.

I feel like I'm arguing with my Idol), admittedly I can't see it from your point of view, mainly because I don't know where you live or how much of American sports you are exposed to, but where you call it Elitist, I feel that it is a business opportunity to tap into potential markets. The NBA for instance, really didn't start to think about going international until you saw a steady stream of players come from all over the world, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Spain, France, Great Britain (John Ameachi, Paul, in case you were wondering
), Lithuania, Russia, Croatia, Yugoslavia, China, et al.....It's a test case, to see how the sporting public likes it, if they like it , that's great (NBA), if they don't (NFL) oh well, they tried.
Wouldn't you consider it elitist that Milan, Juve, Man U, Celtic, and others came over to try and push football on a nation that doesn't like it??

. 2ndly im an Indian.And i have a decent half of my family living in the US, even a couple of cousins who've gone there and are currently completing their post grad degrees. So now you know for a fact that i would not want to diss the states
Ok to get back to the debate....
Point #1: When i say elitist. I am not referring to the packaging and marketing of America's pastime sports. I'm referring to America's lack of participation in sports played around the better half of the world. And to make things worse they go on to declare champions of their sports to be world champs.
Point #2: The point your trying to make about the NFL going to wembley because thats what fans wanted. Im sure you can tell, the powers that be consider more than just that. I can stand testament to the fact that atleast a million indians would like to see the Lakers play the Spurs. Or see the Rock against Triple H in the WWE. Why then are the NBA and the WWE (they come once in 10 years) not coming to India? Its plain and simple to see that they dont see it as economically viable as theyd like it to be.
Point #3: Your saying the layman doesntt care a rat's ass if people in other countries follow your sports. I agree. But that is not the case with the marketing heads of the NBA, NHL and NFL. They want to milk potential markets wherever they can to the best of their abilities. With no respect whatsoever for what that market's tastes are.
Point #4: Espn has come to India as a sporting channel years ago. And theyve really taken on the mantle of bringing the best sporting action to India. Be it football, cricket and hockey. But till today if they buy exclusive rights to an event that thecountry enjoys. eg. Cricket. They hike up their subscription rates and block the channel if cable operators dont agree. Its a business and theyre all it for the money. Yes they are. But its an exhibition of such double standards whne repeatedly show the world series or the superbowl. Dont you think thats a promotion of US sport to the fullest. If you come to India, bring what we want to see, not what you want to show. Mcdonalds was close to shutting down but turned it all around by doing just that.
Point# 5: I did not even know a winter sport such as ice hockey existed in the countries you mentioned. But i sure know about the NHL. Could i put that down to US hard sell of a faverite pastime? Whereas all those european countries you mentioned keep it within their own borders and play other sports with everyone else.
I've jes tried breaking it down to make em a lil clearer for you to see my viewpoint. I hope this helps. If it doesnt, then like you say lets just put it to bed.
