If your suffering from the mac black screen problem I want you to try this for me.
Move your current installation of FM2005 to the trash bin. You now have no install of FM2005 on your machine, correct?
We are going to reinstall, step by step.
Put in the Fm cd. Open it. Go into the mac folder. Double click on the image to mount it.
You now have the Football manager 2005 'green' install box on the screen.
You are going to drag the FM 2005 folder from the middle of that box to your desktop. That is, your going to drag it an inch or two (click it once, and move your mouse to desktop, release mouse) just plop it there on your desktop.
You will see lots and lots of files (about 418.5 megs) transfering; it should take a while, even on the best machine.
Once its transfered, go in there, there should be 5 items, fm, fm editor, and 3 folders.
and click the editor to start it, load the database when it asks you to. does it start? does the data load?
exit the editor
then start the game, does it start *fingers crossed*
------------------------
No luck. When I clicked on the Data Editor I got the same old black screen problem.
Everything is correct up until then (418.5 Megs transfer when the folder is dragged onto the desktop & the 5 items are all there).
Sorry this is proving to be so difficult but thanks for the continued help anyway.

Thanks for your efforts Joe.
But surely this is just a standard install process?? This is the very first thing I tried. Unless theres something slightly different that you've instructed? The editor program is suffering from the same problem - that wont load up either (exactly the same as the actual game.) IF I cant load the editor either what can I do?
---------------------
The difference is that the file is dragged to the desktop instead of the Applications folder but it seems you have the same end result as me.
----------------------
just checking; we have to step through all the possible causes for the problem
Next question: What MacOS version are you running; and what processor do you have.
You can find this out if you click the apple in the top left of the screen and then click About This Mac.
For example, I have 2 macs on my desk,
The first one is my laptop under my fingers, it is running 10.3.6 and is a 1GHz processor.
The other one is a emac running 10.2.8, and has a 700 MHz processor.
get the idea?
(I cant get either them to black screen unless I move the data directory, and y'all would not be that silly I presume!)
