Yours is the typical install path? try after editing it to do the exact same to this file too:

C:\Program Files\SEGA\Football Manager 2012\Editor\data\special folders internal\special folders.xml

In my game he retired after 1st season. He was still my best scorer. 15 goals and 15 assists.
Also Storari retired after 1st season.
Pirlo announced he will retire at the end of 3rd season. Barzagli Also.
