Stupid question from a FM novice, do the individual stats change each year that passes...ex: if Zalayeta as 15 for finishing and scores 20 goals a year, can he get 18 for finishing the next year?

it depends on the potential ability, everyplayer has its "hidden attributes" out of which potential ability is the most important, 200 max. that's one of the things i don't like in the cm and fm games, but hey no one's perfect. example you constantly play a average player, zalayeta in this case, for 5 seasons, and he scores 30 in every season, his attributes won't go up drastically, they'll wary between his starting 13 to 14, 15 in finishing, even though he has obviously mastered finishing since he is scoring 30 in every season. training is a nice thing, but in almost all of the past games it was just that, a nice thing that doesn't work. if a player has a bad potential abilitiy you can train him all you want his attributes won't go up drastically. i don't know the case in fm 2006 as i'm in the middle of my first season, hope that was improved, at least technical attributes which can be trained with hard work, unlike some physical and mental ones.

it is more realistic if it is hidden. it not like real coaches can see that either. or you can always use FM Scout.

mark try FM Scout, quite useful, shows hidden atributes and how much money you should be paying the club for the player

it is better if its hidden you miseed my point, i don't like the fact that a players attribute depend only on that one nr, it alone defines the players' attributes no matter how well he plays. that's what i don't like.

you can use that fm scout, or you can use the old fashoined way, load up the editor and filter out players with potential ability above 180. that way you see most of the games best players, i don't do that it kills the pleasure of knowing you discovered a great young player yourself.
