Stankovic: I planned super goal!
Sunday 18 October, 2009
Dejan Stankovic explains how he planned his astonishing goal from 54 metres – 177 feet – against Genoa.
The midfielder was the star of Inter’s 5-0 triumph at Marassi when he volleyed in straight from a poor Marco Amelia goal kick.
“I had a feeling he was getting that clearance wrong and so I moved to the right. I believed in it right to the decisive moment. We shook hands afterwards.”
The Serb was playing in a new role alongside Wesley Sneijder in support of lone striker Mario Balotelli.
“We managed to do well even without important players like Diego Milito, Thiago Motta and Samuel Eto’o.
“We worked hard on tactics and these are the fruits of our labour. We were practically perfect, creating many scoring opportunities in the first half and taking three of them.
“After the break we tried to preserve some energy so we could get to the end, but scored another two goals anyway.
“It is not easy to win 5-0 at Marassi and this means a lot for the team, especially as we ran so few risks at the back.”
