 No one took the advantage of closing in on Inter.
This reminds me of something similar which happened last season....

Yeah, that's what I figured but it's so frustrating to watch. Ronaldinho wasted a great opportunity from a free kick.
If I were supporting Milan I wouldn't be so fussed about Ronaldinho/Beckham rotating shooting from free kicks or putting them in the 6 yard box with some pace. Not Pirlo from that sort of range.

Beckham definitely should be getting more chances at them though. It's not like it's Del Piero vs Diego for us from shooting distance.

Milan played a very good game.

They controlled the game and created two or three clear chances and had heaps of other balls played into a good area.

Ranieri got his tactics wrong. Roma should have played a higher lined, because Milan didn't have the pace to threaten in behind. Holding a higher line would also have allowed Roma to reduce the space in midfield and make it easier for them to close down Pirlo and Ronaldinho.

However, if Ranieri wanted to play that deep a line, he should have played Menez so that Roma might at least have posed a threat on the counter attack.

Roma outplayed Milan in the first half.

Ranieri always benches Menez, it seems he has issues with him. He always prefers to play Taddei.

Roma outplayed Milan for about 20-25 minutes and they could have been a couple ahead.

The Milan midfield then took control and Roma conceded territory easily and Milan pretty much dominated the last hour of the match.

It was at least 30 minutes.

Not really their midfield, it's Ronaldinho who gave them a boost.

Roma's defense looked very weak due to Riise's often exposure on the left. Taddei combined with Cassetti added nothing. They made a huge mistake for not fielding Motta when Toni came in.

I thought it was Pirlo that controlled the tempo of the game for large periods. Roma didn't close him and he was able to play the passes that enable Milan to take advantage of the spaces Roma left.

Ranieri had a dreadful game. He got the tactics wrong to start with and he failed to do anything to change the pattern of the game once Milan were on top.

I agree about the Ranieri part.

Still, I didn't see Pirlo as a big threat. To me he lost it long time ago. His play is totally different now and much simple. It's all short, predictable passes a bit up front, usually to Ronaldinho. He's not really using his creativity anymore while he's pretty slow.
