The Italian league is better suited for Gooch than the Premiership. Playing for Newcastle's defense is like playing for a college team out there, so at Milan he'll have better players around him and a slower pace to deal with. Not to mention he'll obviously do better in a more team oriented defense.

But if he gets pulled out of the center too much, that's where he is exposed.
Sounds like Cannavaro.

Palermo always hunt for South American talent. Last year they signed Abel Hernandez, and 2 years ago the signed Edison Cavani. and now Javier Pastore. They can get the South American talents with reasonable price, that's good transfer policy for them.

It is not like other South American like Nilmar, Hernanes, Salvio with a expensive price tag

Indeed, which means Onyewu and Cannavaro are limited players.
Cannavaro is only limited now by his age. His lack of pace hurts him. He will only be a good CB for us for one season at max.. but my fear is both him and chiellini lack pace. Ciro knows this though and wont play a high defensive line.

Santacroce would go great with Chiellini for our future defense.

Gonna try to watch many games for palermo next season. Watched one game only for Huracán and Pastore really stood out.

He's vision, passing + skills is pretty impressive. Looking forward to see this guy more next season......

The last thing i want to happen is Inter signing Cassano and Antonio finally working wonders at the highest stage, that would make their clueless "pass to zlatan" attack a lot stronger.

Lucarelli-Livorno: It's all over!
Saturday 11 July, 2009
Cristiano Lucarelli’s return to Livorno has sensationally collapsed. “I thought it was a joke,” admitted his agent.

The striker was all set to come back to his hometown club after talks with President Aldo Spinelli this week.

The patron had confirmed negotiations were at an advanced stage and he could be considered a Livorno player, but a remarkable statement appeared on the official club website.

“With great regret the club points out that faced with ulterior unjustified requests from agent Carlo Pallavicino, we intend to consider the talks terminated.

“We would like to point out that similar behaviour was also seen in the past when Cristiano Lucarelli was registered with Livorno.”

Spinelli hinted that wages were a problem, but that he “understood” Lucarelli did not want a pay cut from his current deal with Parma.

The sudden and total collapse of talks was a shock to the system, above all for the man at the centre of it all.

“When Cristiano called me to say the negotiations were ended and it was my fault, I immediately thought it was a joke,” confessed Pallavicino.

“I have not been able to contact Spinelli. It all seems like an excuse, I can’t explain it. The President was angry at my agent’s fee and didn’t want to pay it, so without giving Cristiano time to explain, he said the talks were over.

“The last thing I wanted was to end a transfer for Lucarelli, who is like a brother to me. Spinelli has accustomed us to similar outbursts.

“I am sorry that my image has been thrown in the mud by this man.”

At least there is some good news for Livorno, who have officially signed Sampdoria midfielder Mirko Pieri.

Ruotolo 'sacked’ by rules
Friday 10 July, 2009
Livorno’s new season preparations have been hit with the news that Gennaro Ruotolo will not be allowed to Coach in Serie A.

The former Genoa and Livorno midfielder was only appointed in May and helped guide the Amaranto to the top flight after play-off success.

However, the Italian Football Federation have insisted that he does not hold the necessary coaching qualifications to sit on the bench after the side made his caretaker role permanent over the summer.

“We are saddened and bitter,” said Livorno sporting director Nelso Ricci. “The rules aren’t clear which means neither are the reasons for this decision.

“It also brings to light the difference in treatment for other people with bigger names like the Milanista Leonardo.”

The latter was appointed Milan boss over the summer and has been allowed to take charge despite the fact that he too is lacking in qualifications.

The difference, however, is that Leonardo has played in at least one World Cup which excludes him from the stringent rules enforced by the coaching committee.
