4-3-1-2 works with good fullbacks and classy players in midfield like Milan had. Lets not forget how they won the Champions League these years with that formation. We just can't seem to field it because we have retards in possession who pass the ball like football terrorists in Sissoko and Melo. Marchisio doesn't offer much inventiveness either.

Sali and DC on our flanks wouldn't provide us anything either.
    I certainly agree.
But when we decided to play 4-3-1-2 we should have known that we don't have the players for that formation.

Porto should be banned from the CL for many years to come. Making Arsenal look so good is a fucking joke.

Hopefully Arsenal crash out next round so they can concentrate on the Prem.

    Width, width, width.

Football without width sucks. Width offers so many options.
I hate the fucking 4-3-1-2. Either play a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or anything with players who can cross. We have a team with 3 strikers who are strong in the air and we decided to play on the ground. No wonder we suck so much.
Thats what im talking about... bayern has only gotten this far because of it... with robben who imo is one of the last GREAT winger left, along with ribery make a deadly combo and spread defenses like warm butter on toast....

Are you purposefully being so harsh and biased? Honest question.

I think most people who know me, know that i never overrate my team and that i rarely am biased to my team. There is no doubt that Porto made silly mistakes today, they wouldn't have lost by a five goal margin if it wasn't for that. But we played extremely well and passed the ball around better than 98% of the teams in Europe, players like Nasri and Arshavin were absolutely magical today.

One could make the argument we don't have the players for any formation, then. We don't have top wingers for the straight 4-4-2, we can't use the 4-2-3-1 with Seba and Camo because that would bench Ale, and we do need a spot to field Diego in behind the striker(s).

We can't play straight 4-4-2 with Diego being our most talented player, and with our glut of central midfielders we need to fit them somewhere. Sissoko, Melo, Marchisio, Poulsen... all strength up the middle. So unfortunately the 4-3-1-2 IS our most suited formation looking at our squad.

No, there is no need talking about those two. They are great players and of course they'll offer a lot on the wings.
I'm talking more about Marchionni. An average player like him, just by running a lot and opening up, is offering so many options during Fiorentina's attack.

You have to understand that I've seen you guys play a lot in Europe over the years because you're one of the "American" teams. But apart from today, you guys very rarely impress me in Europe. It's just my opinion. From matches like Roma to Villarreal, I'm rarely convinced by you lot. It seems like you're a different side at times when comparing your performances in the Prem and CL, not to mention the competition.

What I will say is that I wish you would be the top side from England in the CL because it's much more ideal than phony clubs like Manure and Chelsea doing well. But you know that, so I'm not sure why you're asking.

I always have believed in the Arse as they can play beautiful football.

Why didn't he ever do that with us then?

    Exactly.

Even if all the wingers do is stand on the touchlines, it stretches the opposition and opens up space.

If you were to actually have a good winger or two, capable of beating a man and crossing regularly, you then become very difficult to play against, because it is very tough for a team to prevent a winger getting one on one with the fullback on a regular basis.

Then, if the opposition double marks the winger, there should be a lot of space in the centre.

Juve are incapable of stretching teams just now, which is why they are so easy to defend against.

I would always have at least one pure winger in my team.

When we decided to buy Diego and we knew that Nedved retired, we already knew that we'll probably play 4-3-1-2.
That was one of the reasons, imo, why Ranieri wasn't too happy about buying Diego. I believe that Ranieri knew this team very well and he knew that we need different players.
Our board decided to go with Diego though, even though they were aware that there is a huge chance it won't work because we lack players to complete Diego.

Diego is a jewel and perhaps our best player, but result wise his purchase killed us.
Now that we have him we simply must buy players to complete him. Either buy 1 great attacking winger so we can play 4-2-3-1 or buy 2 fullbacks who can attack well and cross well and players who can pass the ball for the midfield.
