Fiorentina fans to show support for Ireland
2009-11-24 - Added by ExtraFootie Fiorentina fans are set to show their support for the Republic of Ireland and former coach Giovanni Trapattoni by hoisting a huge banner reading "We are all Irish" ahead of their crunch UEFA Champions League clash with Lyon.
According to reports by Sky Sports 24, the Curva Fiesole at the Stadio Artemio Franchi will display a banner reading "We are all Irish."
The move comes after Ireland were cruelly denied a place in next summer's World Cup when French captain Thierry Henry deliberately handled Florent Malouda's free-kick before squaring for William Gallas to head home the equaliser.
The goal meant that Les Bleus won the tie 2-1 on aggregate and progressed to South Africa at the expense of Giovanni Trapattoni’s men.
Now, in solidarity with the Italian coach, who spent two seasons with the Viola between 1998-2000, fans will display the giant banner.
Cesare Prandelli's men will progress to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League if they defeat Lyon in the Group E clash, a result which extinguish Liverpool's hopes in the process.
