Santon is a risk due to his age and supposedly injured for the rest of the season. Zanetti isn't a bad idea, but I'd rather play him at left back, have Muntari man mark Messi with Zanetti backing Muntari up.
I wouldn't really man mark Messi, though.

Because Barca has two playmakers, man marking one means more space for the other. And if you manage to mark them both out, they still have Messi who'll drop into the midfield and do the job himself.
It would still be worth sacrificing one player to keep Xavi out of the game, though.

Iniesta and Messi then have to go deeper to get the ball, which makes them work harder to get the ball in dangerous areas.

I'd prefer missing Vermaelen, Gallas, Nasri and Arshavin, than missing Gallas, Song, Campbell, Djourou, Fabregas, Ramsey, Arshavin and Van Persie.

But hey maybe thats just me.
No, huge loss Gallas was. No arguing there. Many times, as it's the case with Arsenal (and Juve without Chiellini) one missing in the defense makes a world of difference.
But my point is that big teams like Arsenal and Juve can't allow one missing in their defense to change so much.

I'm not so sure about that.

I would be surprised if Barca don't make the final, but I think Man Utd will have a very hard time getting by Bayern and Lyon.
they have the away goal...it would be so hard...i know, i saw the match with chelsea and i was amazed of how weak man is without wayne. But old trafford is old trafford...they have a good looking record over there, and i think bayern will choke (berbatov too..)

It wasn't just Gallas, it was Gallas and all his possible replacements. Like saying Chiellini, Legro, Zebina and Caceres missing.

Iniesta, Ibrahimovic, Pique and Puyol. :luckyluke:
I know, i equated Iniesta with Nasri, Zlatan with Van Persie(i meant to say RVP not Arshavin in that post), Gallas and Vermaelen with Puyol and Pique.

Since we play a 4-3-3 like they do, it was easy to find the equivalents.

I'm not going to say Man Utd won't get through. I just feel that it is far from a foregone conclusion.

I suspect Man Utd v Bayern will go to extra time, and could go either way from there.

I'd do it simply for the fact that it's such an old trick Messi (and Guardiola) might not expect it.

Hard to say whether it is better to man-mark Xavi or the strikers. Both could work, so I guess it goes down to the players at the manager's disposal.

Messi vs Inter would be really interesting. Messi is the greatest when it comes to exposing bad defences but it should be interesting to see how he does against a team with a good defence.
