While Antonio Conte’s men put their finishing touches on their preparations for tomorrow’s visit to Genoa, Juventus.com takes a look back at a previous encounter contested on 16 September.
Both teams faced each other on the first day of the 1962/63 campaign. Juventus were under the stewardship of Brazilian Paulo Amarel, a coach renowned for his pioneering 4-2-4 system championed by Conte in the opening stages of last season.
Lining up in the black and white stripes on that day were Mattrel, Castano, Salvadore, Leoncini, Emoli, B.Sarti, Crippa, Del Sol, Nicolé, Sivori and Stacchini.
Despite the best efforts of Luis Del Sol and Flavio Emoli, the visitors were unable to breach the Rossoblu rearguard, with both sides eventually settling for a share of the spoils.
The Bianconeri would go on to finish runners-up behind eventual champions Inter. Instead, newly-promoted Genoa managed to maintain their place in the top flight by a single point, consigning Napoli, Venezia and Palermo to the drop.
