Gunning toward the upcoming release version 1.1, Firefox is available in an alpha release with some new goodies (such as better extension management, improved page loading times etc), code named "Deer Park". Considering this is actually alpha software, it's insanely stable in my experience. I've been running Deer Park Alpha 1 for well over a month, now the second alpha is out, so get it while it's hot:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/deerpark/releases/alpha2.html

(if you're not hip on the latest and greatest, you can safely continue using Firefox 1.0.x)

NOTE: some extensions don't work with Deer Park. Adblock, Flashblock, All-in-one-gestures work fine, Dictionary search and Session Saver don't.

Major talking points for Deer Park aka "Why should I?"
Improved speed, the user interface has become a lot snappier and pages load faster, drag and drop tabs, mouse wheel scrolls through tabs etc

EDIT: extensions compatible with Deer Park: http://www.projects1.com/firefox/exthacks/FFnightlyextensions.html

If you guys ever tried Opera and noticed how fast it is switching between the current page and the previous one (obviously they both have to be cached already), that kind of lightning speed is now felt with Deer Park alpha2

yay, sticking it to the man
Off topic, I'm reminded of that classic dialogue between Stephen Colbert and Rev. Al Sharpton on an old Daily Show:

Stephen Colbert: In street lingo, are you running to stick it to the man?
Al Sharpton: I don't know what street you got that language...
Stephen Colbert: The urban street. The mean streets.
Al Sharpton: I'm sticking up for a lot of people that have felt that no one has stuck up for them, but I'm not trying to stick it to anyone.
Stephen Colbert: Not even the man?
    Al Sharpton: Who's the man?
Stephen Colbert: Let's pretend for a moment that I'm the man. Now, stick it to me.
Al Sharpton: uh... I'm not sticking it to anyone.
Stephen Colbert: Not even the man? He's very stickable.
Al Sharpton: I don't get thrilled by sticking it to you, I get thrilled by stopping you... sticking it... st... you're sticking it to me.

I'm having some anomalies with the search-as-you type feature. Apparently it has become overly keen on searching form input as well as text, which creates a bit of a problem when you type in a form (as I am now). Had to turn it off. Other than that, it is behaving well so far.

"Search as you type?" ppffff.. another "spotlight" wannabe! :D

I'll check this version out sometime if it's available on osx. Extensions are available for most of the stuff you mentioned anyway on the current version. Speed of course is not.

I think I'll stick with 1.0.4 for now. Stable or no, it's still an Alpha, and liable to delete your C: drive at a moment's notice! :)
