Juventus were required to dig deep and grind out a priceless point from last night’s encounter with Fiorentina at the Artermio Franchi.
Under pressure for large spells of the game, Antonio Conte’s men managed to keep the Viola at bay and stretch their unbeaten run to 44 games.
Gigi Buffon called it a “good point”, and few would argue with the giant shot-stopper. Despite not displaying their customary free-flowing football, Juventus, led at the back by ‘Gladiator’ Chiellini, compensated with defensive solidarity and plenty of heart.
For the first time this season the Bianconeri saw less of the ball than their opponents, who shaded the possession stakes with 52%. The percentage of completed passes also fell in the Viola’s favour, 74.6% compared with 72.5%. The hosts struck on goal on 12 occasions, five more than the Bianconeri.
As previously mentioned, Chiellini stands out at the top of the individual statistics, recovering the ball 25 times and completing the greatest number of passes (78). Giovinco and Jovetic both tried to find the target on three separate occasions, followed by Quagliarella, Pirlo, Roncaglia and Pasqual on two apiece.
