The fact that that's how the work is easy to get, what's difficult is why they are so retrograde and stupid enough to miss out on millions because of it. Operating this way out of spite instead of being mature adults about it can't be good for anyone.
If they sell Llorente, then every talented player they have at some point will ask to be sold, that way they would actually lose more money since in 99% of the cases players get sold for way less than their buy-out clause. Not to mention all the headaches they save that come with negotiations, instead they keep it simple, you want the player - you pay for his buy-out clause.

And they don't really need money since they don't buy anyone that isn't Basque.

I for one admire them.

I guess we'll have to disagree since I see it from the point of view of the player. If I'm a talented guy, though unfortunately come from the Basque region and made my name there, I'll want to win trophies. You can't do that there, or at least very, very rarely will that happen. Besides, who doesn't want to play for a Barca, Madrid, Juve, Bayern, etc.?

However, because of this attitude, it's impossible to have something beneficial for both parties, transfer fee for the club and a move to prove myself for me. No, instead they go "Fuck you, and everyone like you. I own you bitch, and you are staying until I say you do". I mean, you can admire that all you want...but yeah, I'd rather side with the position that benefits both parties.

No-one would dispute that Bosman has improved things a lot for the players.

It's spoiled football, though.

It's impossible for a smaller side to keep it's best players for any length of time, because they don't want to risk losing them for nothing.

That makes it very hard for smaller clubs to build a strong team.

That means we see the same big teams dominating every year, where in the past it was possible for smaller clubs to achieve something.

Cagliari and Verona winning the scudetto, Aberdeen winning European trophies.

These things are impossible now, and football is less interesting because of it.

That's without even going into the stuff about the combination of Bosman and TV revenue that has led to such preposterous wages.

A re-balancing of the relationship between players and clubs was needed when the Bosman case was heard, but the ruling moved things too far in favour of the players.

Hard to say just now.

It's a decent step to try and limit the ability of someone like an Abramovic to plough endless amounts of cash into a club.

However, it'll also end up maintaining the status quo, as it will be very hard for any team outside the well established big clubs to find the cash to try and make a step up and challenge.

According to Tuttosport we made an offer for him (4m). I reckon it won't convince Bilbao but if that rumours are plausible it appears that we are looking for another striker...

I believe this guy is still on his way out in January. If not us, then to some other club. I believe their supporters staged another demonstration during one of their training sessions to voice their displeasure of his continued presence. Parting in January would make the most sense for all parties involved. This has Marotta written all over it.
