No, I think with that statement coming through their official site, the deal is done already for June. Last Summer Llorente had agreed everything with us.

No, he'll earn over 4 mil.
Well, that sucks because this also means that there won't be any top striker signing in January (unless Beppe pulls a Drogba out of his ass).

And I doubt he'll get over 4m. My take on the team's salary policies so far is that they have been kept low but the players get extravagant bonuses.
There is no point buying him now if we can get him for free in 6 months or so. If he could play in CL it might be worth it but since he is cup-tied it's a waste of money.
I thought he isn't cup-tied?

At this stage it's just for a move after June 30th 2013, and it doesn't look like Athletic Club will accept an earlier transfer.
Given that we don't really need their permission to start talking to him for June, I think this approach is a bit more direct in the sense that we perhaps would like to coax them into making a deal for Jan. Marrotta is seemingly proposing 3-4m, but I can see him up that figure by a couple of million if Atletic see the reality of the situation and come to the table. I can see this going through in Jan tbh. (if he isn't cup tied!?)

Exactly. We tend to reward them later on if we achieve goals. In this way they have more motivation.
I thought he is...

Can someone clarify.
He has five appearances in Europe.

Very nice move by the Great man. Very nice!

I was critical of the move when there was talk of sums between 20 and 30 million euros, but to get this guy for free is truly something.

I am fairly certain he would be allowed to switch competitions here.

18.17 For all matches from the start of the round of 16, a club may register a
maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the
current competition. Such registration must be completed by
1 February 2011 (24.00 CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be
extended.
18.18 One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
− in the same competition for another club; or
− for another club that is currently in the same competition.

Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Europa League,
his former club must not have played in the UEFA Europa League at any
point in the current season.
Ignore the dates, I took this from the UEFA rulebook.

first the talk with llorente... after that talk with atletic bilbao... if the talk with llorente went well... why on earth would bilbao not sell him for a couple million now instead of letting him go for free in the summer?
