But doesn't this, or price issues come in the way of a lot of our negotiations in particular? Haven't we come to accept: the selling club is being unreasonable with their pricing so there's nothing Marrotta can do, or the player doesn't wnt to cove to Juve so there's nothing Marrotta can do, or a player's wages cost too much, so there's nothing Marrotta can do.

I feel like the truth about his abilities lies somewhere between the bouquets and the brickbats.

And I know you may not agree with me here, but if at the start of the transfer window, I was to tell you, that we were going to end up with Llorente, then 90 pct of us would've been disappointed. The sheer enthusiasm to a signing like this shows our resignation and acceptance either of our situation and/or the inability of the man in charge to get the job done. That is, sign a player to help package our image among Europe's elite.
I can't speak for everyone else here, but from my vantage point, I didn't consider Llorente simply for the fact that there was no indication up until a week ago that he was going to leave.

It has nothing, and I repeat NOTHING to do with how I feel about him as a player. Per my conversations that I have had with W on this and other threads, I started following Bilbao more closely this year because of some of the fantastic young talent they have, such as Muniain. Only then did I start to notice Llorente. I don't follow very much football outside of Serie A to be perfectly honest with you, but I will watch teams that have excellent young talent.

If I had known that Llorente was going to be available at the start of the transfer window when all the other names (and admittedly, players that were out of reach) were being mentioned, I would have been quite pleased. I am quite pleased now, knowing that Juve are linked with him.

And of course price issues are going to come into play no matter who is negotiating. And I'm not going to pass judgment on a transfer market that is still two weeks away from being completed.

If by then, there is no upgrade to the attack, then yes, I'm going to get annoyed about it. And I'm not talking about a Pazzini type of transfer, either. That is, at most, a decent upgrade to Quag.

Last year i hopped for w.class signins and gurus+Di Marzio made me belive, and i was disappointed .
Marotta promissed 3 w.class signins,and made 0,but Pirlo,Vidal,Vucinic turned in to w.class :D
But this mercato i knew from the start we won't get any w.class striker,so i don't even care,i'm really happy with our mercato,just don't buy : Pazzini,Negredo .
And for me it's really good mercato :D

No he isn't. Pazzini will not be an upgrade over anybody we have. His gameplay isn't much better than Borriello's, only his finishing is. And while we're at it, neither Matri or Quag should be sold if we miss out on Plan Z: Llorente. Leave the attack as is. Go in to the mercato nezt year and hope for the best, because our situation cannot be any better than it is now.

If that was even remotely true right now he'd already be either a Juve or Milan player.
Not at all. He will only go on loan when it's equally viable for shitty. This is only possible at the end of the mercato, if they find a suitable replacement and need somebody to take him off the wage bill.

When did he promise you that?

I agree. If Marotta can't get any very good CF like Dzeko/Llorente or a talent like Jovetic, just leave it how it is. Or maybe invest in a talent such as Ocampos, Iturbe, Ramirez. And if it's possible, get Pereira, if available, or Armero. But just don't get a CF like Pazzini just for the sake of it, for god's sake.

I'll ask again. When did Marotta promise to buy three world class signings?
Juventus are also likely to make acquisitions before next season and Marotta has now revealed that they could use a handful of new stars, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport, "Juventus need at least another four great players.

I'm sorry he didn't use the term world class. :)

I still remember a interview from a couple months ago when he said we will only buy 2-3 players, quality over quantity but how many players we have signed until now? 10?

If you looking for a quote where Marotta said " I promise you that we will sign WC players " you won't find it. But he did many times in his interview hint/promise that juve will sign top players/ WC, the problems is the definition of top players for Marotta is different from the rest of the world defintion.

who named giovinco the top ss of serie a?

I'm sure Miccoli had better stats than the midget and i've nobody seen him calling Miccoli a top player.

He said the focus shouldnt be on quanity anymore but on quality.

:agree:
Found the quote.

“Two years ago we looked for quantity, now we want to add quality. We are already competitive for the Champions League, but we’ll look for the cherry on top to touch up this fantastic squad.”

Not to forget the quotes how he likes RVP, Suarez, Higuain and how we are after them. Imagine if we end up with Pazzini, how stupid will that look, and I bet people will still find a lame excuse to defend him. I don't really have a problem with not having enough money or refusing to enter bidding wars, what I hate is when people bullshit and make fake promises.

This being said, I like what he has done until now.

I agree with Nicholas. The attack is already improved. Giovinco as an SS is better than Vucinic - some people forget how awful he was during a great part of the championship, specially the first half.

And Vucinic is better as a CF than Matri/Quagliarella. I've always liked Vucinic in this position.

Pazzini being bought is a total waste of time, I agree. But if Matri and Quags remain, he could possibly be the 5th option - a clear improvement over Borriello.

So yes, we have already improved. But it's not the ideal, of course.

If the budget left is 16M for a new CF, just give up. Pay 12M for Pereira and we are set. Or make an extraordinary effort to get Jovetic - add 5M (totaling 21M) and offer Quagliarella, Padoin, Pazienza, Ziegler, all that shit. If they want them all plus 21M, let them have it. No team is spending money to buy those guys from us.

PS: I don't believe the news regarding Llorente. Bilbao would be waaaaay to soft on this negotiation. U don't ask for "only" 18M (not counting bonuses) after u say clubs need to pay 36M to get him; and after u just get almost 40M for one of the best players of the team; and just after a first offer of 16M (u ask for 25M at least); and when there are 2 weeks left to get the best offer. I mean, Bilbao is a tough negotiatior club. These news don't seem to be true at all. Can't judge Marotta on that.

How the hell is paying 18 mill for Matri or 12 on Martinez OK in this guy's book but 20something on the likes of Llorente, Dzeko etc. not? I mean these type of players are a necessity to a top club and they bring success.

TVE - Rejected the bid for Juve Llorente: too low. Here is what Athletic Bilbao want.

According to the Spanish broadcaster TVE, the bid for Juventus Fernando Llorente would be too low. The 16 million euros Juventus offered by the leadership would not be enough to carry off the Spanish striker dall'Athletic Bilbao. The Basque club had therefore refused the proposal received from Turin and would have demanded 18 million euros plus 4 bonus to leave as his flagship. The news - picked up by colleagues from Sky Sports - has bounced back from Spain in the evening.
If that's true it shouldn't be too difficult to close the deal.

I don't buy the idea of Juve not being willing to pay much more than 16m or so up front for a striker. They couldn't possibly set out with that budget and think they had a chance to sign the sort of 'top player' that has been spoken about.
