Felipe Melo is expected to fly in to sign a five-year contract with Juventus on Monday, as Marco Marchionni undergoes a medical.

The saga over the Brazilian’s future seems to have been resolved after offers from Arsenal and Marchionni’s refusal to accept Fiorentina contract terms looked to scupper the move.

Melo is still in Brazil right now, but the Corriere dello Sport claims he will fly in to Turin on Monday to finalise all the paperwork.

He is set to sign a five-year deal worth £2m per season plus bonuses, while Fiorentina receive around £19m and winger Marchionni.

There are suggestions that Melo is so eager to start work with Juventus that he will begin pre-season training on July 19 – a full week before his post-Confederations Cup vacation was set to conclude.

He could even make his debut in the summer tour of Spain, which opens against Sevilla on July 24.

The other half of this deal, Marchionni, had at first risked wrecking the entire move when he turned down the wages proposed by Fiorentina.

That has now been sorted out and he will undergo his medical later today, starting pre-season training on Monday.

I'm sorry juvefan. Even though I think Trez is deadly in front of the goal, we need a more complete striker than Trez. I'm not saying that Trez isn't good enough, but he wouldn't fit our system. We should have kept Eto'o, but the only players that could replce him are Villa, Forlan or Torres.

Ofcourse it's a case of a Juve fan defending the Juve player and vice versa, but I don't see what else you could need than an exceptional finisher. With players like Henry, Messi, Xavi and ofcourse Iniesta ( whom I rate incredibly high ) supplying, Trez would be nothing but a goal scoring machine for you. Anyway.. I hope he will be for us rather than for you . Nice to have you on the forums man.

On Melo: Looks like we'll have our long anticipated official confirmation on Monday, finally! The whole 'eager to start'-thing is obviously a rumour, but that would show how motivated he is to do well at Juve. This midfield will become strong as anything.. I'm loving it.

Inter have better fullbacks. Our CB are better, they have Cordoba, Samuel, and Chivu who is overated.
We have Chiellini, and Cannavaro.

the mid ours is definetely better (if we sign Melo ofcourse), BUT they have more depth, and more cover for every position.

Attack we have DP, Amauri, Iaquinta, and Trez.
They have Ibrahimovic (one of the best in his position and in the world), Balloteli (a great young player and very underated IMO), and Milito, who you all know his scoring rate.
IMO their attack is superior.
so overall I guess it is a tie, but they have more depth, and a WC coach. We have an unproven Ferrara, but I am optimistic about him.

The favourites for the scudetto remains Inter, BUT if we sign fullbacks, then it changes the whole picture.

I agree with most of that, though I am unsure about the comparison of the attacking units. I say unit, because Diego is in no way a defensive player. his game is geared 99% to offensive gestures and 1% to maintaining possession. So he should be included as part of our attack.

We potentially have a goalscorer equal in potency to Milito, in Trezeguet. Whether he will be able to force his way into a starting role though looks unlikely, but only if i am using the selection process of Ranieri as a guideline. If I was Ciro, I would know the value of the frenchman, know that if I have anyone in my team who can create chances in the 18 yard box, Trezeguet will score goals for fun. Against world class teams, we need world class creators and world class finishers. Diego is our most inventive player now, by far, with only Giovinco capable of challenging or even matching him for that crown, and the atomic ant is more likely to be used a sub for DP and Diego. Perhaps...Who knows? if he has a storming pre-season, he can have Del Piero's place...I think places will be won on merit in Ciro's team, not reputations. And Rightly so.

Anyway. Diego, Trezeguet and one of Iaquinta or Amauri, preferably the brazilian so we can have the three of those latin lizards all playing at once...

That is as strong as a Ibrahimovic, Milito, and any of their offensive midfielders.

Ibrahimovic doesnt need great service to win games, he just needs the ball. that evens out the magic of Diego, who has some of that same flair, and ability to put the ball in the net. Diego's talent is potentially as special as the Swede's bag of tricks, and nasty class, but he remains slightly in the larval stage of development...

Comparing attacks is tough.

If Melo, Marchiso and Momo do a decent job at holding a line of strength in front of the defence, yes, i agree, our midfield and defence is stronger.

We have a better keeper also, but the form of the brazilian nerrazzuri shotstopped has been far better than that of Buffon over the least season...But Buffon remains Santo Buffon, and I am sure that this season he will remind us all why we rate him as a god.

Melo is an interesting, expensive signing. I am interested to learn how much value for money we are getting, either in the Now, or accommodating his potential??? I hope D'ago doesn't go to Madrid, though I do feel sorry for him....however, if he heads to the bernabau, and we play them, i will definitely be hoping that Melo stomps him, rather than see my sicilian cousin running us ragged and making us all regret opting for the brazilian over him.

Santos is perhaps too expensive unless we sell...Tiago or poulsen...or, god forbid, trezeguet...but i suppose he is on stupidly high wages, and if he isnt playing regularly, then he is best culled, sent home to valhalla...Grosso move still likely???

Training started this week, just not all players are there yet, due to longer vacation. ( Confederations Cup players )

Thats worrying. Though I can hope that as you say, Ciro can instill an improvement of both those players.

I am happy that we have added two players to the team, who could turn out to be world class, and who combine to raise the level of quality of our first team quite dramatically.

Next summer we can go for new fullbacks, and hope that Ariuado has come through the blooding process, got a fair number of games under his belt and is ready to challenge or take over from Cannavaro...Hopeful, but possible. SO we could spunk the whole summer budget on fullbacks, and maybe one centre back...and leave the midfield and attack alone.

The Felipe Melo saga has so far made all the headlines in Italy but calcio master Arrigo Sacchi believes Juventus should have signed Gateano D’Agostino instead.

The former Milan tactician doesn’t doubt the talent of the Brazilian midfielder but claims the Bianconeri would have been better off with a different type of player.

“Juve have plenty of tireless midfielders. Aggressive players who have stamina and can fight for the ball,” said Sacchi.

“However, they are lacking when it comes to building up the game. Their ball possession has always been a weak point because there isn’t much harmony in their tempo.

“D’Agostino would have provided them with that. Melo is a better overall player but he seems like a stronger copy of some of their current midfielders.”

Sacchi basically claims that the Brazilian is a better Momo Sissoko or Christian Poulsen while D’Agostino would have become Juve’s Andrea Pirlo, thus making a massive difference in midfield.
Meanwhile, the Bianconeri are trying to offload the Danish midfielder as well as Tiago Mendes but there are not many clubs interested in the duo and the players are also not willing to reduce their wages.

I can't look for his predictions right now, but i think his last 10 predictions and expert analysys were all 100% wrong.
