I love the idea of the 4-2-3-1, I think it is by far the best formation we have. I am ecstatic at the aquisition of Melo, Our midfield is incredible. I would say we now have the best midfield in Italy in terms of talent and depth.
As for the formation, playing Giovinco-Diego-Camo together is fantastic for creativity and attacking strength although there are a few question marks when it comes to this formation.
Not using both strikers is in my opinion a big blow to our attack, any striking combination out of the possible four is likely to striker fear into any of our opponents. By playing with a lone striker upfront, our attacking power decreases marginally. We would have three world class strikers on the bench and there is no doubt we would be wasting some superb striking power. Furthermore, Del piero cannot play in such a formation.
However, if we sell Trezeguet and replace him with a RB or LB or even both, I would change my stance completely. We would be sacrficing an ageing Del piero for potentially the most dangerous midfield in Italy, it is a gamble I am definitely willing to take. And with Trez gone, we aren't really wasting too much talent. IQ can be Amauri's substitute and we can occasionally switch formations to a 4-3-1-2 to play Del piero. We woud have greater variety and versaitility in choosing formations thus making us supremely unpredictable.
The best formation if we eventually sell Trez and buy Say Santacroce and Grosso.
