Our freaking mercato will be over after we signed Felipe Melo. I cant really believe this. We need Grosso or someone who can provide Amauri some balls to his head. Everybody knows that Amauris head is world-class.

to grab Diego, Melo and Cannavaro is wicked work by Secco, Blanc and Cobolli.

The brazilians add so much to our team that was missing last season. Marchiso, Melo and Momo with Diego in front of them, behind ANY of our forwards, could develop into one of the greatest midfields in history. None of them are too old. The talent requirements are there. It has everything. STrength, Pace, Power, Technique, Flair, Tenacity, Fantasy, Doggedness...

Yes, without any doubt, we are in need of defensive improvements.
But our defence last season was overburdened due to a horrible to watch drop in our midfield's ability to receive the ball, consolidate possession, and create goal scoring opportunities. Because we couldnt keep the ball, our opponents had more time and space than a decent midfield would afford them.

Playing Nedved, Poulsen and Marchionni...is not a world class midfield. Nedved was a shimmering shadow of his former self, only in patches. His work rate never diminished, but what his work accomplished DID. Poulsen, when he played, was closer to a ghost than a bear in terms of Defensive Capabilities. Yes we have the Bear, in Momo. And also to a lesser degree, and more expressed through doggedness and bravery, with Marchisio. But what he lacks in Brute Berserker menace, he makes up for with decent technique....but where was I?...Marchionni should have been shot many years ago. His performances have been some of the worst I have witnessed of any player in our beloved jersey. Molinaro competes in that same category...Camo, when he played, was neither consistent nor a great help. Injuries and a clearly unsavoury mentality. But he cannot be relied upon, which is why I am hopeful that Ciro will use Melo with Momo and Claudio.

Cannavaro is decent to challenge Legro, and to add some experience to the backline. Which are good things...Chiellini is by far our strongest defender, but he lacks experience, and his mentality does need improving. Legro is a perfect Professional. I am sure he trains diligently and with fervour, but he is makeshift rather than a rock to set in place for our back line. Cannavaro can be that rock, but he can be challenged and replaced when necessary by Legro, and/or Ariuado and/or Santacroce.

Its at left back where I am most worried. Zebina if fit, and somewhere near right in the head, can prove solid and adventurous on the right flank. But Molinaro, even when putting in optimum effort, can prove consistently ghastly. Its the Marchionni routine all over again...I almost feel sorry for them both, but i cant, because part of me thinks that if they loved the club they would have left by now, gone to any interested team, to help improve our squad. I would be excited but hardly enthusiastic about De Ceglie been given the troublesome left back berth. He has something. What though, is presently misty. And we dont need Misty as a starter. But that would be preferable to me, than Molinaro. However...the thought of having those two as our left back supply, is distressing.

Grosso can come in. Just for a year. Same deal with Cannavaro. And for Zebina at right back with grygera as his back up.

We can look back on this summer and say we have brought in two players who combine with what we already have to not only vastly improve our capacity to maintain possession, but also, just as importantly, if not more so, our threat in the final third. We have class strikers. Who will now get chances served up ona plate, every time they play in front of the likes of Melo, Momo, Marchiso and Diego. I hope we get to see the following formation:

Buffon
Zebina Cann Chiellini De Ceglie
Melo
Marchiso Momo
Diego Giovinco
Trezeguet

I keep forgetting about Giovinco, getting carried away with the brazilian excitement. He must play this season, as much as possible. He must be allowed to challenge for a place, in any position. Which is looking likely to be mainly Del Piero's spot in attack.

We have a keeper who can still prove that he is the best in the game. A solid-ish defence and a potential world class midfield, supporting an already world class attack. It could be worse...
