the back three was Conte's choice, but not Conte's fault!
It is not his fault that MArotta has failed to get a proper LB, from the very first day Conte took over, up untill now!
Conte simply adapted our formation to our material in optimal way and considering our lack of LBs,the lack of wingers, the weak defenders and the surplus of CMs, the 3-5-2 is the optimal formation for our material.
The Italian NT also happen to suffer from the same things (lack of decent LBs, quality CBs, LMs and has a surplus of CMs) so its only logical to follow Juve's path (as it always did anyways)

The whole world lacks LBs. Worldwide it's the position with the smallest pool of great/top class players. Even LMs who would play nearer the middle of the pitch are rare these days because the 4231 has been so popular.

Additionally I would disagree about the Azzuri's lack of top CBs. They have the same three world class CBs that we have - Chiellini, Bonucci and Barzagli.

The best thing about this whole argument is that we have never tried to buy a left back.

not really, we are trying each and every year, actually, we have been trying since the Molinaro days, From Zeglier to Peluso MArotta has been constantly keep failing to get one.
That was one of the first players Conte has asked when he arrived.
But unlike the right side, since there arent many LB option, one transfer manager should locate one player, plan his transfer, negotiate for him and get him!
Thats precisely what MArotta cant do, he can only accomplish opportunity random targets and freebies...
