Not really. Actually, applying simple mathematics to the transfer market is extremely dumb, because you are ignoring every single other factor involved in a transfer.

What is the actual cost of Jovetic (or similar)? Would the club sell him to us? Would the player join us? How much would the player earn, and how does this affect the salary structure of the club? One of those things not adding up equals a failed big transfer, as we have seen so far.

Then you have the reasoning for buying Peluso or Padoin, which seem pretty obvious. Players the coach knows, who are in the peak years of their careers, who can play multiple positions, who will sit on the bench for spells and not grumble, who always work hard when they get the chance to play.

By the logic that we can not buy 5-6 squad players and use the money to buy a star player, we could perhaps not buy any players for two transfer windows and sign Ronaldo instead.

It should be clear by now that the strength of Conte's team is the squad. We will get someone, either brought or made, but it will be under our conditions. The idea is that gradually we will be able to increase our budget in all areas, which makes big moves easier.

Conte>>>Juventuz

That's why Juventus with their average team won the scudetto. Yet Inter with the amazing Pereira. Roma with the most wonderkids in Serie A and Fiorentina with the best mercato in Italy don't look anywhere close to winning the league.

Nicholas: I think I know what you wanted to convey, but we are by no means an average team. In fact, we have 6 top players (yes, world class players) in my opinion. They are: Buffon, Pirlo, Chiellini, Barzagli, Marchisio and Vidal. And even if some of you don't consider all of them "top" players, at least they are very good players, of which we also have a lot, including Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Asamoah, Vucinic, Matri and Giovinco.

Discussion wasn't about this, as I know you just wanted to praise Conte, which is cool, but I just don't like to see our team described as "average", because it's far from the truth.

Well, mathematics alone isn't enough, but I still think it tells a point.

What is the actual cost of Jovetic (or similar)? Would the club sell him to us? Would the player join us?
Well, Jovetic is just an example. There are a lot of different more expensive players that could be interesting.

How much would the player earn, and how does this affect the salary structure of the club?
That's a good point. However, I do feel it should be possible to get a good striker within our salary structure. At least better than the ones that are rumored to join us.

Then you have the reasoning for buying Peluso or Padoin, which seem pretty obvious. Players the coach knows, who are in the peak years of their careers, who can play multiple positions, who will sit on the bench for spells and not grumble, who always work hard when they get the chance to play.
While I do appreciate players who work hard and can live with a bench spot, those shouldn't be the players we use that kind of money for. Though I appreciate Padoin's hard work and dedication, he simply isn't worth those 5 million euros. When we desperately need money for a topstriker then the solution isn't to go out and pay 5M euros on a player that we only are planning on using for rotation. Certainly it must be possible to get a decent reserve on a free transfer or a loan, or alternatively through our youth section.

By the logic that we can not buy 5-6 squad players and use the money to buy a star player, we could perhaps not buy any players for two transfer windows and sign Ronaldo instead.
You are right about the fact that five 5M players don't equal one 25M player, but I stil think it's stupid to use 5M on a bench player when a cheaper solution should be possible. A cheap solution for a star striker, however, is not really that simple.

It should be clear by now that the strength of Conte's team is the squad. We will get someone, either brought or made, but it will be under our conditions. The idea is that gradually we will be able to increase our budget in all areas, which makes big moves easier.
Well, I'm still waiting for that "someone". So far, being linked to Chamakh, Carroll and Borriello isn't exactly what I'm dreaming of.

That's obvious? What's so obvious about that? Why are we signing Peluso who's that old and coming from Atalanta? It's not like we're getting depth because we already have De Ceglie and it's not like he's any worse than Peluso. Also, we have Asamoah who can play there without many problems. If we're getting a LWB I'm fine with that, but then why not sign a quality player? Because that surely Peluso isn't.

We're trying to balance our budget after a few seasons of humongous deficits, don't expect too much.

I don't think we'll get any of the three names mentioned to be honest.

Sorry I meant when people describe Giach, Padoin etc. Those players were integral players in our season last year.

Asamoah is our starting LB. Why would we be looking for a starter there?

How was Padoin integral last season? Both of them are mediocre too.

So why should we sign Peluso if we have Asamoah and De Ceglie there? And don't tell me that Peluso is better than De Ceglie.

I've not watched Peluso but De Ceglie is absolutely woeful and certainly not starting material for a month.

What does matri have to do with very good players ?

But De Ceglie is a fine back up. Why not just loan someone if we only have a problem for 1-2 months?! Using 5 millions on a reserve isn't the way to go when we need to save money for a striker!
