This is a lose-lose-win situation for management.
If they let him walk or sell him, fans are angry wondering why we didn't pay him.
If they pay him and he produces the same uninspiring results we've seen since the injury, fans are angry wondering why we paid him so much after the injury.
Then again, if they pay him and he produces amazing results, people will feel vindicated in asking for us to retain him. Also, he plays a very similar position to Soule who is on FAR lower wages and recently had more Serie A goals than Chiesa's ever had in a single year. We ask management to make better decisions and we trash management for paying Sandro way passed his prime but fact of the matter is when Sandro signed that extension it looked like good business. It looked like the smart move.
This is the risk management deals with. This might be Sandro right before the extension. I think Chiesa should understand that he hasn't been the same since the injury, sign a 1+1 deal on the same wages and play for a long extension. But that will require some loyalty from management that says if he does perform under Motta and this new attacking system that they will reward him for it.
