I think it is. Why did we buy a 29 year old Higuain instead of a 22 year old Icardi or less than 90m would have been enough to get Morata actually here regardless of the buy back.

Im not saying dont buy youth, we are buying it all the time somewhat (Rugani, Shick, potentially Tolisso). Im pretty sure the management actually wants to buy some star who will win the CL with this group we have right now.
We got run over in the midfield. That is where we need the help. Sanchez alone won't fix the problem in my opinion.

I totally get what you are saying.

But maybe, just maybe.........................................................

This current core has gone as far as it can go?
Apart from Marchisio who is still suffering from that injury, I don't think there are better players in those positions. The core is great, AS, DYbala and Pjanic are also great and still young-ish and they need 2-3 players that upgrades our quality to next level. My point is we need player that can make an impact now, not in 3-4 years...if something's broke, fix what needs fixing, don't throw all of it to the trash.

They did reach a major objective.

They just happened to get beat by a team that is worth 3X as much as us, has 5X the spending power, with 10X the brand recognition. Who also happen to be in the middle of a European dynasty. And had a bench that was valued at around 250 million Euro the other night, not counting James Rodriguez.

We can't fight fire with fire when it comes to Real Madrid. Oh, how I wish we could my man, but we are years away from reaching that level, if ever. We can't outspend them, and will never have the depth of talent that they do. I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. We've got to build our own core of players who will get us there again. I know everyone wants to win a CL for Buffon. But in order to do that, god knows how many hundreds of millions have to be spent in transfers and salaries will have to be spent to even gt us on the overall talent level of Real Madrid.
We need to drown their fire with a volcano

Alexis Sanchez alone won't be enough. You still need another attacker, PLUS a worldclass CM if the goal is to get right back into the CL final next year. But is that really the goal? To go all in for one last run with this current setup?

I'm not quite sure that is how this club is going to operate, especially if everyone but, say, Bonucci is still here next year.
Matic, Sanchez and Bernadeshi would set us straight up

I'm terrified of that....please don't say that.....

Very good post. The simple fact is that right now we cant compete with Real og money or appeal. Calciopoli set us back at least 10 years, and we have to take it one step at a time and build slowly, if we ever want to become a mainstay in the CHL final. Thank god we have a management, who are able to do just that, and get the best out of the ressources available to them.

Schick is a must buy. He wont make a difference next year in the CHL, but in my opinion he has the talent to be one of the best CF in the world in the long run. Someone like Fabinho would be great to. WC holding midfielder and still only 23years old. If Sanchez is an opportunity that would be great otherwise I would be very contend with someone like Lemar as an alternativ for Cuadrado, Pjaca and Mandzu.

People need to realise that we wont be the favorites for the CHL next season, because Real, Bayern and maybe Barca will have better squads than us. However we will be competative and with the right coach and some luck at the right moments we have a chance to win the CHL.

Everyone needs to calm down about the era part. If we had won the final, noone would have said that. So one game suddenly defines the era? If we had won im sure people here would say things like lets add one two youngsters like Schick and Bernadeschi and this team is set to dominate for years.

Good points but which just prove that we need to spend this summer not just look for some cheap alternatives or free bosmans. And i think we need to spend big on couple of additions.

WC winger, WC CM, fullback cover both sides (people talking about RB here, Sandro has no cover either, Asamoah will suck in CL).

I'm afraid, i have the same feeling

The end of era
He could be onto something. I mean, is not the first time we fail to reach our maximum objective,

and theres nothing wrong with that, this core has steamrolled italy for 6 years and have fought a fair fight in europe since we returned, almost always going out to superior quality (with the exception of frozen kebab).... so is not like we have failed.

But wel...what can we say? we cant pretend that we have won the CL

For Bonucci specifically, i feel he wants a new challenge. To try himself in a new team while he is still considered one of the best defenders out there.

Licht is finished, Chiellini will only get worse the next years and of course Barzagli is not the player he used to be.

Add to them Marchisio, who we don't know if he will be ever starting material for us again, and our whole right flank with a good but limited player(cuads) and a short term solution in Alves.

Khedira of course was probably our worst player in the fianal.

Last, and i know this is something most people here won't like, Buffon doesn't make me feel secure and relaxed anymore. Many times he seems shaky and slow.In fact i belive, our defence makes him look better thsn he is.

In the end this feels like the year we lost to Milan in manchcester. We thought we would be back with 2-3 signings, but most of our players were old and washed up, so we were really awful the next season

What has to be said is that you don't always need to splash the cash to get a world class player. Pjanic can be a good example. There are things going on we or journalists don't know about. Who would have thought that Mire will choose us instead of other clubs that definitely were interested in him for that price. Another example can be Morata. Media were talking for months that Milan, Chelsea and Utd are interested in him. Lately his father said that only United is interested what gives them a bargaining power. That's why I think the discussions about prices and our transfer budget are far from reality.

So they'll sell to Sassuolo, who just so happened to find a large sum of unmarked bills behind a tree in the park. Then they'll just so happen to decide to loan him to us with an option to buy.

But they won't sell to us though so it's ok.
