 :howler: You're equating a Dybala sale to the purchase of Berna? Wow. Some people have incredibly low expectations!
First of all, while I love Paulo, he's not having a great season.. compared to last year, that is.
That being said, obviously Paulo is better but the guy is gone.. if not this summer than the next one, and Bernardeschi is probably the best italian option, he has massive potential and could become WC, although unlikely I guess....

IF we sell Dybala (which would be disgusting and lacking in ambition after the sales of both Vidal and Pogba; only teams like Dortmund get rid of their stars when presented with huge offers), we'll need more than just Bernardeschi. However, I'm against any sale of Dybala. We don't see teams like PSG and Bayern sell their best players, and we have to aspire to be in that bracket if we hope to consistently compete in Europe. Constantly chopping and churning doesn't help. Bayern don't offer insane wages, and yet manage to retain their best players, while playing in a league that isn't highly competitive. The same applies to PSG in terms of not playing in an attractive league, even if they can offer insane wages. I thought we were modeling ourselves on Bayern, so if that's the case, we need to be consistently targeting the QFs (and eventually semis) in the CL. Selling your best player(s) every 2-3 years doesn't help accomplish that goal.

Every team except Bayern is open to selling almost any player for big money.

Madrid has quite the history of selling top talent (because they also sign so much talent), many teams have benefited from their "no one is safe"policy.

United, richest club in the world, sold Ronaldo and Beckham to Madrid. Even agreed to sell De Gea last year.

City routinely swaps players in and out.

PSG haven't been in the game too long to be sure, but the only player of their's that people are crazy after is Verratti. It's no secret that he will leave in the near future given how much of a dick his agent it.

Barca recently was a bit weird because so much of their team was local (like we used to be) but now there are more and more rumors every year that Neymar will end up making a mega money move. They still sold Alexis, Ibra and Frabregas recently.

I am NOT saying "sell Dybala", I hope he will stay forever. I'm just saying that charging 100m to teams doesn't make us unambitious. Reinvesting that to better the team every time is the best one can do.

He makes good points, but yeah both Real and Barca sell left overs, players they dont want anymore, not their best players. Man U did that with those because Real were just too tempted and seen as clear step up. We have the same issue they did back then, more so because we have less money (Beckham and Ronaldo didnt leave for salary alone exactly). Its our job to close that gap best we can. And that is certainly not done by keep selling your best player 3 years in a row...

Di Maria and Ozil? both left through the big door recently. Particularly Di Maria was clearly Madrid's best player in their run to win the CL. Then he got sold because he wanted more money and PSG came knocking.

Ozil himself said it was his dad (agent) asking too much from Madrid that got him sold.

Robinho was fantastic for Madrid, and then new-rich-City came calling.

When players get silly with them about monetary demands, they get sold.

Madrid is 100% about money. They would sell anyone except for Ramos at this point, no doubt.

They sell to make place for their new toys, Di Maria and Ozil left and Bale came if I remember correctly. Same with Robinho, replaced with Robben and Sneijder

No way they'd have sold prime Ronaldo or any vital players in their prime without a replacement deemed superior.

I'm definitely advocating for keeping our players btw. I just don't see it as a big issue if someone breaks the transfer record for one of our players. Like with Pogba. There is no better way to sell than to get literally world record breaking money.

Yeah they sold high and well but Real Madrid did not want to keep anyone of those players, and directly replaced them with bigger signings or stars. Thats the difference. Robinho especially they were glad to recoup something on.

The above is not comparable to Vidal, Pogba and if we sell Dybala at all.

Thats the best way to sell ofcourse, but the question remains, why does your best player want to leave? What can you do to keep him? Because we cant do a Real, sell key players and buy better stars to like its nothing.

Madrid don't sell their best players. They sell really good, sometimes even world class players who they can dispense of without problems. Usually replacing them with someone more high profile and expensive.

You wouldn't ever see Madrid selling Ronaldo, Ramos, Bale, Marcelo etc unless those players really wanted to leave for personal reasons, as it wouldn't be for sporting or cultural reasons. You probably will see them sell James like they sold Robben and others, however. If James was playing and important he wouldn't be sold.

What we need is to consistently reach the latter stages of the CL, and winning it at least once or twice in the next decade is practically mandatory if we want to be a super club.

It's also a case of the player would not want to leave RM. There are very very very, count on 1 hand, few clubs that is considered a step up from Madrid. So:

1) Getting paid very well
2) Winning atmosphere
3) Winning team
4) Playing with some of the best players on earth
5) Generally playing in your prime at RM (otherwise probably aren't even there)

"Let me leave that and join Inter or Dortmund" - would never happen

Was Pogba our best player? he wasn't even our best midfielder. Di Maria was certainly a much better and important player in the season when he left Madrid than Pogba was for us.
