Do you think he was responsible for Chelsea’s 4-1 aggregate defeat to Barca in 2017-18? I personally think others let him down.
And what about his fifth place finish in the league. You know, the reason the Allegri outers keep giving Allegri shit for (despite the fact that we actually haven’t finished in fifth yet)

I feel like this guy is beginning to lay the groundwork for us to become a top team again

This mercato hasn’t just been about signing great players, but also beginning to fix the countless fuck-ups that Paratici caused during his reign of terror.

Kind of reminds me of the groundwork Marotta laid for us in the 10/11 season to fix up Alessio Secco’s disasters over his three year spell.

They were technically awful (Matuidi) or becoming passengers and past it (The other 2)

But getting rid of players who are the weak link doesn't solve anything if you replace them with fucking even worse "market opportunities" so we downgraded an already weak position

Looks like the new guys figured out in all of 7 seconds that our entire midfield wasn't just bad, it was stopping us from achieving anything and had to be replaced ASAP

:agree:

Pjanic, Matuidi, Khedira were all finished or very close to finished at the top level. Problem is we replaced them with players that have top levels similar to their washed up levels.

In hindsight, Khedira and Matuidi were so much better than what was coming later.
yes, but Pjanic/Khedira/Matuidi was already a massive downgrade from Pirlo/Pogba/Vidal.
I am pretty positive that we would've won Cardiff with our previous midfield.

But the past is the past. After this last few days i am actually positive that our board understands the issue and tries to fix that team!

There's basically no midfield that isn't a massive downgrade from Pogba - Pirlo - Vidal. That can't be the standard we expect because it's completely unrealistic to have a midfield that is as good as that one.

Absolutely true, there was maybe one or two midfields worldwide that matched that strength (Casemiro/Modric/Kroos comes to mind)
In my opinion we spent too much money on our offense and not enough to get a good midfield. Had those 90m for Higuain, 40m for Bernardeschi or 40m for Kulu gone to get ourselves strong midfielders, i am sure we'd have been better off.
