Graham, I don't understand the "stop the name calling". I thought that "Baby G" was a cool nickname. You don't like?
I apologise if you meant that in a positive way, I just detected undertones of supposed immaturity, and superiority on your part. My mistake :)

Sure, $2000 for a pair of shoes is quite sick, but this thread is more about fashion that is more reasonable.
Fair enough, I didn't see anyone saying that they really wanted a $2000 pair of shoes. I think it's great that people care about the way they look, and I'm sure it's great fun to talk about your favourite designers, so I'm quite happy to see the laymen enjoying fashion, but as I said before, it gets to a point when things become ridiculous. That rant wasn't so much about the people in this thread, just my view on how disgusting some aspects of fashion have become.

If you would spend $160 on a soccer ball, then $250 should not seem so crazy for a pair of shoes ($500 in the case of Blahnik).
Well the thing is I haven't spent that much on a footy because as I said I don't have the money, but I get your point; it's not for me to criticise other people for spending money on what they care about. Heck, I'd love it if I could get my hands on a $300 pair of Adidas Predators, but I wouldn't spend that much money on them if I had it. I'm quite content to simply talk about footy boots though, and I wouldn't take it as a personal insult if someone came and said that it's ridiculous how expensive they are, because I'd agree with them. Doesn't mean I can't dream about wearing a pair though, and I guess the same thing's happening in this thread.

Each to his own then, I hope we're still cool ;)

Why come into the Fashion thread for the purpose of condemation? Just start a "Save the World" thread and I would be happy to rail against U.S. Commercialism, the exploitation of the earth's resources in pursuit of the mighty dollar, everything for oil, and the overpopulation of the planet because people just won't stop fvking. Hey Vicky, I'm there. I'm as green and environmentally conscious as they come, but this is the Fashion thread.

And no matter what you think, nobody is better than you simmply because they can play football.
yeah, you're right, we shouldn't talk about saving the planet in the fashion thread
but you guys are the ones that took it there, it wasn't me
i do think it's insane though to spend thousands of dollars on clothes, when you can look as good for less money and spend it on something more useful.... maybe i'm just "too young" and that's why i think that way but that's the way i see it .
and about helping others ..... if i made a lot of money, you know maybe i would give it to the pour instead of buying myself another dress that i'll wear just once. and if you think that it's their own fault that they're poor and they need to "stop f*cking" then you're just wrong ....

i don't get the football-playing part, would you plese break that down for me

I think that if you like something and its expensive, go for it and buy it for yourself. You earned the money so you decide what to do with it

yeah only it's too bad that a lot of people like things JUST because they're expensive
ever notice how they compare clothes in some magazines ? the same exact thing and one costs $100 more than the other one
and guess what ? a lot of people will buy the one that's more expensive b/c " if it costs so much then it must be good"

Sometimes you only pay for the brand. A true example of that is Bebe. They have awesome clothes but what most people buy are the shirts that say "Bebe", and they pay like $40 for that shirt, just because it says Bebe.

fabiana your argument that people earned their money is flawed. you were lucky enough to be BORN in a family which could support you and pay for you to be where you are.

you didnt earn anything by yourself, you were lucky enough to be born in a family that could do that.

Graham, your argument really is correct, and I think all people at one time or another buy something that they love, knowing it's too expensive - but they do it anyway and feel a little guilty about it. When this is done sparingly (and not to excess) it is fun and we shouldn't have to feel guilty, IMO.
Of course we are still cool. Always have been.

Vicky, I was just winding you up about the footballers. That part about the world being overpopulated because we can't stop fvking was in no way aimed at the poor or any ethnic group or any country. I am just concerned about the overpopulation, so much so that it took my wife two years to convince me to have a child. Cheers, and sorry about the footballer thing:cheesy:

Precisely. I just get annoyed when it becomes the norm for celebrities and the like to spend truckloads of cash on :blah:

Americans, have any of you been to the one-day off designer discount? It's a very scared (and secret) thing. One day of all designer stuff at practically half price. Has anyone of you been to it?

Well the price for designer stuff here in Msia is ridiculous - very, very ridiculous... but it's well worth it for the stuff, especially shoes. I have a fetish for heels.

I buy designer stuff using my OWN money. And my mom complains bout it although the next day she bought a YSL handbag... :undecide: [just for the record the handbag was huge and very retro ish]

Speaking of designers does anyone use their cosmetics? For girls, I mean. I'm not sure if guys use those :D

I love Pierre Cardin and Marks and Spencer's lingerie.
