Serie A kick-off delay? Monday 31 July, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reports in Italy suggest that it is very unlikely that the Serie A and Serie B championships will start on August 27 as scheduled.

The probable starting date may be September 10, after an almost four-month break, considering that the Azzurri will play their first Euro 2008 qualifying matches on September 2 and 6.

Federal Commissioner Guido Rossi had guaranteed there would be no delay, but the appeals of the teams involved in the Calciopoli scandal and the evolving second phase inquiries will probably take up most of August.

Earlier today the trio of Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio presented their appeals to the CONI Court of Conciliation and Arbitration, the highest degree in sporting justice, hoping to overturn the verdicts handed down on July 25.

CONI’s decisions should arrive within August 10 and if the clubs and officials involved are still not satisfied they may decide to appeal to the civil courts, namely TAR.

The commission who was assigned the second phase of the Calciopoli inquiries ended its inquiry on Thursday afternoon and chief Francesco Saverio Borrelli submitted his report on Monday.

FIGC prosecutor Stefano Palazzi may call for new indictments for Reggina and possibly Arezzo, Messina, Siena and Lecce before the end of the week, while the first degree verdicts are expected for mid-month.

Reggina are the ones risking the most and are being investigated with regards to six matches played in the 2004-05 season.

The clubs involved have pleaded their innocence and denied any wrongdoing, but it will be very difficult to wrap up all the appeals before the end of August.

Guido Rossi, extraordinary commissioner for FIGC (Italian football federation) has written a letter stating that any club appealing against the 'calciopoli' (this includes Juventus) sentence in the Italian court of justice may be suspended. Why is Mr Rossi so afraid about this?

Actually Rossi said something very very funny (to me anyway, just thinking about it makes me  ).

The reason why our dear Rossi ( :yuck: ) doesn't want us to appeal to Tar, other than obvious fact that we would almost surely win and take our scudetto away, is that FIFA threatened that if any of the clubs tried to appeal to anything that is not TAS, Figc would be banned for a couple of years from the European competitions.

Can you imagine?
We appeal, get justice and *poof* who tried to sink us gets a taste of their own medicine: a couple of years without CL incomes. :D
Why should we care? For the time being, at B -17, we (Juve) are out of such competitions for 2-3 years at least anyway.

I really really hope we will appeal.

It would give a lesson to the losers also for the future and a little vendetta would be sooo sweet.

At this point the only thing Rossi ( :yuck: ) can do to avoid this inconvenience :D is have a little chat with the judges of the Camera di Conciliazione.
He surely is an expert at that. :yuck:

I'm only afraid that they'll give us a -20/30 A and our new board won't have enough b**ls to appeal.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but there is an article of an Italian law that says that the results of the phone taps can’t be used in different procedures from the ones in which they were disposed.
This means that they shouldn't be used in any "Calciopoli" trial.

Do you realisticly believe that they will put Juve back to top flight with point deductions?

If the letter A won't appear in the next verdict, Juve will surely appeal to Tar. I guess they'll at least try not to take the risk to be excluded from the cups for a couple of years.
