He's heading down the Iaquinta path. Stays around as 5th striker instead of leaving to collect that paycheck that he'll never get again. Nobody seems interested today and 2 more years of this salary and then he'll 32/33 and his value will be next to nothing.

And who can blame him?
this is so stupid

What is so stupid about it? At 30 years old as he is today, do you see teams being interested in him? Where are those teams? And at 33, do you think any team would even offer him close to what we are right now?

If he is kept it'll pretty much be based on not being able to get as much for him, mixed with his CL goals. I said at the time and before but he is more useful in Europe as defenders don't get so tight, and are normally leaving more spaces than our domestic opponents. His style takes advantage of that.

:chin:

In terms of Serie A his record is not impressive at all. 5/9 of his goals came in two games, and only one against a 'big' team (Inter :seven:). 2/4 of his assists came against Pescara, who had the weakest Italian defence since Operation Husky.

1159 minutes
129 minutes per goal
9 goals (Chievo 2, Pescara 3, Bologna, Genoa, Inter, Sampdoria)
4 assists (Pescara 2, Inter, Torino)

In short if he were to leave it would have minimal impact on us in terms of our Serie A campaign.
His goals did earn us 13 points during last season. But sure, go ahead and ignore that.

Your right. If he stays after we bought 2 (3) attackers and beeing 7 choice last year, it either:
1. No club is interested
2. His idol is iaquinta and amauri

This is the reason.
30 years old, inconsistent, lousy off ball movement, selfish and so on.

Smaller teams have no reason to get him. He's not young enough for small teams to sign him up and hope to sell him in the future, and he'd be giving up way too much if he decided to leave because no team would afford him. He has hit that part of his career where he's just not good enough for the "richer" teams and not young enough for the small teams.

Maybe Russia is an option for him but if he isn't interested there is nothing we can do.
Also we aren't willing to let him go under 8M and I can't see any club outside mentioned league to offer that much.
We must get rid of one between Matri and Quag and it seems Matri attracts more suitors.

Of course I'll ignore it, because it can't even be calculated.
What can be calculated though, is 3 MOTM performances, 16 goals plus assists, second only to Vucinic, who is considered to be the greatest striker alive. With significantly less game time. Its also a little unfair to consider the goals against smaller teams a little inconsequential, because if you relook at that Chievo tape for instance, they were going home with a draw. Nobody could break the deadlock, but Quag's moment of magic did. Whether one sits and calculates points or doesn't. It is a fact that he proved to be useful, and had an impact in the majority of opportunities he was given. And that goal average would have looked even healthier had he actually ever gotten close to 5 games in a row at any point in the season, those numbers may not look good, but they are a bit more impressive when you see the lack of continuity.

Sell him or don't, but to say that it's because of the lack of buyers may not entirely be true, it could also be that he perhaps serves as a better bench option than the other strikers we may choose to sells head of him, if we do. It could be argued that he was our most effective striker this season.

Point of going to Russia = Making money. But he's already doing that in Juventus, gets to live in Italy and is part of a luxurious organisation with all that comes with it.

Yes as I said it will be difficult to get rid of him.
I always thought he was a bad purchase. He had few average years at best in Udinese and one in Napoli iirc but we payed too much for his services. No resale value whatsoever.
That's why I believe Matri will go.
