I am of the definite opinion that quag's injury and that game for other reasons such as Melo's dismissal, and the very heavy loss at home completely derailed our season...as to why this was so, its a mixture of reasons. Mental fragility, lack of quality in depth, the loss of Melo from that game and the following three...and then obviously, the loss of Quags from our starting lineup for the long term.

He is a very hard player to mark. Whether the change of scenery or simply this was HIS season, or maybe the role he was given to play, or perhapshe just clicked very well with certain players...the first half of the season was the best i have ever seen him perform on a consistent basis. He is hard to mark because he is an intelligent footballer, with very good movement off the ball, and a natural eye for the goal. The link between our midfield and attack was breached and dead after his injury.

Of course there is a chance that physically, he may have lost a yard of pace after recovering from such a serious injury. but that wont have lessened the sharpness of his footballing mind. and as his main talent, as far as i have ever seen, is an eye for goal and intelligent movement, i can't see how either of those things could have been damaged.

I hope we can see Quag play one more game before the end of the season, hopefully against his former club Napoli scoring the winning goal.
