Our current defenders,even chiellini are not playmakers and not good at passing,specially long passes.canna is not worse than legro or melberg in defending,and he has better playmaking skills.so technically its not a bad move,specially that is for free.

But i think that what he wanted to say is that we need a defender who won't just shoot the ball as further possible, that won't make the worst passes you've seen in your life and won't panick with the ball at his feet the way our defenders (minus Legro) react whenever they have the ball.
That's actually true. It certainly doesn't have to be Cannavaro, but we need someone like that Danish defender you like from Liverpool, Agger, or like Marquez, who's comfortable with the ball at his feet. An improved version of Legrottaglie. That's what we need.

Yes, he is better than nothing, but on the other hand if we get him, then we surely are not getting anyone else instead.
ATM, our defense needs a rebuild and the 36 year old Canna, is nothing more than a quick fix, at best...
