how old was good old ferrara when we won the titles in 2002 and 2003 ? Age is not the issue here imo.

But bringing him here with the fullbacks as is then that will cause a problem.

    2 months ago, maybe.

    @ The Czar:

When exacly have we been linked to Asamoah?
We haven't but as I said actual names doesn't have to mean much...but all the players we wanted on those 2 positions are pretty much young.Hamsik...etc. we'll be linked with him sooner or later and I think he's a possible target but I was just trying to point out how it's possible to have a very strong/young team in 2 years.

haha I don't think we have, Dule just has a thing for him at the moment:D (from a sporting point of view of course)
Hehe, true that.I think he'd be perfect for us...he's currently on loan and Udinese will probably try to keep him but if we get in that race now we might have a chance.

If not him I guess we'll go after Hamsik.

    Cool response to Canna
    Monday 20 April, 2009

Juventus legends Beppe Furino and Jose Altafini have reacted rather coldly to rumours suggesting the Bianconeri will re-sign Fabio Cannavaro.

Cannavaro, who left Juventus for Real Madrid in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, has reportedly been offered a four-year deal - one as a player and three as a director.

“I heard about Cannavaro and I didn't want to believe it,” Furino wrote in La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We won't discuss his achievements as a player, he is a world champion, but the years catch up with everyone.

“If Cannavaro is a sure thing at no cost whatsoever then bring him on, but there are other players that Juventus need to close the gap in Italy and in Europe.

“Have the fans forgotten the so-called “betrayal” of three years ago Footballers are professionals, Cannavaro's decision to go to Real Madrid was based on money,”
    Furino explained.

“Two games will be enough for the curva to forget all in a hurry. Then again it will be difficult not to remember what happened three years ago. The Juventus of today would have players that now bring luck to other teams.”

Altafini was equally critical of Juventus' decision to go back to the future and think about entrusting their defence to the 36-year-old Italy captain.

“Why don't they re-sign Zinedine Zidane as well?” Altafini said scathingly. “They need a central midfield!

“I don't see how Cannavaro alone can resolve Juventus' defensive problems. Age counts more in defence than in any other position and Juventus' backline is already slow.

“The politics of not spending will not pay off if we want to keep up with Inter,” Altafini explained. “It will take an aggressive and courageous transfer campaign to overtake the Nerazzurri.

“As for the defence, Giorgio Chiellini has had a great season, as has Nicola Legrottaglie, so Juventus don't have a problem at centre-back. (that's highly debatable)

“What would it take for Juventus to support them with a youngster, someone like Simon Kjaer, the Dane from Palermo?

“Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, was a little tough on Cannavaro a few weeks ago, but he painted a reality - 36 years are a lot and if Napoli, his hometown club, aren't willing to take him, well…”
    Altafini concluded.

Cannavaro first joined Juventus from Inter in 2004 and made 74 appearances for the Bianconeri before leaving for Spain in 2006.

Its sad, 3 years now, and we are STILL accepting this boards total negligence for our defence, if they invest, its shit like Boumsong or insanely injury prone Andrade, the rest? Its like they sign solely to avoid investing zip, free bies, Grygera, Mellberg, Sali, Knezevic, and Legro and Molinaro didnt cost us zip. They keep ignoring quality and barely investing shit, and you could say they were laying a foundation, and its hard find suitable players after coming from Serie B, but thats 2 years ago, whats their excuse NOW????

As their track record shows, its very naive to think signing and ageing and severely declining Canna will be just one of a couple of signings for the defence, past track record shows you they go for the bare minimum in improving the defence, zip else. Everything possible to avoid investing in a lasting quality player that will add to our future and improve our defence. They will hail Canna as our main champion signing for the defence, and at his A game, this dude was my absolute fav defender, regardless of where he played, but he is at best MEDIOCRE now, and 36 years old, I see him commit so many errors in the last couple of years, its RIDICOLOUS, I mean, the Brasil game was just 2 months ago, Canna was EMBARRASSING in that game. Think outside the name, and yeah he brings experience, but ask yourself, does he bring quality? And how wise is it to just have stop gap solution for just 1 year? Its very counter productive.

Anyways, despite all the concern over Canna coming back. I will just be thankful to have a defender that can actually read the game for a change. Hopefully he can pass that trait over to Ciellini & Co before he hangs up his boots. Forza Canna

with the exception of Chellini, he's better than anyone else we have right now on defense......and we know how this board doesnt like to spend money, but rather grab guys on free-transfers

I thought its either Hamsik or Diego/Silva??

    Anyways, my team:
Buffon; Eboue, Cannavaro, Chiellini, De Ceglie; Camoranesi, Sissoko, Marchisio; Diego; Del Piero, Anauri

With the signings of Eboue, Cannavaro, Criscito, Diego, we are set, IMO!

Maybe we will get Cassano instead of any other striker and Hamsik. Than we have an all star squad.

He's on loan from Bellinzona. It's really hard to believe that he's just 20yo.

We should be careful if we really want him because Roma could get him because Bellinzona is their feeder club and they already want him.

His price is still a mistery because it was never mentioned so far.I'm guessing around 8mln euros.

Yeah but not in this case if (and we should) get rid of 4-4-2 for the next season.Eboue has extanded his contract so we should look somewhere else.

There's no point of playing 4-4-2 if we get Diego and that we'd need to buy some AMR because we shouldn't rely on Camo who's injury prone and we know how bad Marchionni actually is.

4-3-2-1 is the answer for us.We could sell Iaquinta/Trez so we could buy both Hamsik(or someone of that value) & Diego.Would work much better than 4-4-2 considering our situation.

anyway, if we get Diego for something like 25m and Canna for free then that leaves us with another 25-30m € to spend considering the sells of Trez, Tiago, Zebina, Palladino, Almiron...with a 20-25m € budget.

Good things can happen in this mercato IF done properly.

    Only 20 yrs old?

It would be nice to hear this week in the news of the conclusion and signatures of Diego and someone else (hamsik or even your asamoah: just wishful thinking). Just like out of the blue Canna is ours.
