Mercenary is still mercenary , if he really back , doesn't change my opinion about him after what he done before .
what is the terrible things he has done???

he has never talked bad about juve,on the contrary he was thankfull that we gave him a chance to revive his career
he was only 2 years with us and we certainly didnt make him the player he is, just helped him a bit
he joined madrid instead of any of our italian rivals,i,e inter

personally i have nothing against him and i would welcome him again.

Canna's contract revealed
Monday 20 April, 2009

Juventus have offered Fabio Cannavaro a lucrative four-year contract, according to the Italian Press.

Cannavaro, who left the Bianconeri in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal three years ago, is a free agent this summer.

His club, the Spanish giants Real Madrid, are unwilling to renew his current deal and would like to replace him with a younger centre-back.

Juventus are said to have presented the Italy captain and former World Player of the Year with a one-year contract as a player.

Cannavaro has the option to extend that contract on a rolling basis if he wishes to continue playing after it expires at the end of next season.

Juventus expect him to retire after the World Cup in 2010 and have moved to make him a director, offering him a three-year deal to join the board once he hangs up his boots.

Despite leaving the club in its hour of need in 2006, Cannavaro has maintained a good relationship with members of the Juventus board.

The same cannot be said of the club's fans, who, having worshipped Cannavaro, now see him as something of a traitor.

The Bianconeri's decision to bring Cannavaro back has already met with criticism from some parts of the Italian Press.

Napoli rejected the chance to sign him earlier this season because of his age and question marks remains over his ability to deliver the sort of performances he was capable of when last at Juventus.

The acquisition suits the Bianconeri, though, who are great fans of picking up players on free transfers.

In the last two years, Juventus have bought the likes of Zdenek Grygera, Hasan Salihamidzic and Olof Mellberg for nothing.

Cannavaro scored six goals in 74 appearances for Juventus between 2004 and 2006, establishing himself as one of the world's best centre-backs.

I felt fucking terrible when I awoke this morning, after 5 hours sleep, with the knowledge that I must shit, shave and shower and head to work...last friday night's dirty binge into an ocean of absinthe and vodka, coupled with the delivery of a pokey bag of bud saturday afternoon, then a 7am bedtime sunday morning after staying up to watch the inter match..it was all too much for me...but my spirits were raised when i read, before leaving for work, of Fabio's likely return. Whether his comments prior to leaving the club were true quotes or not is not anywhere near as important as what he will add to our often shockingly poor back line, if he does arrive in the summer.

His quality is supernatural. he is one of the most perfectly cultured thugs I have ever seen with a ball at his feet. The idea alone of Chiellini and Cannavaro together, in the middle, makes my mouth water in anticipation. It is far more common for a centre back to play into his 30s, and retain his quality, than any other position on the field, other than goalkeeper. Yet we have played Nedved time and again this season, in a position which requires energy, stamina and pace. Alongside Chiellini, Cannavaro could be amazing. Locking down that area of the spine of our team...a pillar of strength, running down the middle, Buffon, Chiellini, Cannavaro, Momo, Marchisio, Diego, Amauri ( or trezeuget or iaquinate)...Every world class team has a strong spine. And our spine this season has been fragile, far too often for my nerves and heart and soul...

Of course, we should be building a new team, and with cannavaro, we are doing that. Blending in proven quality with players brimming with potential, is the way to bring out the best in our youngsters, sooner rather than later. Molinaro, Zebina, Grygera...maybe they will learn something from him. his mere presence enough to raise their games...If not, though, he will undoubtedly prove a positive influence over Chiellini, De Ceglie and Ariuado. And perhaps also Criscitio.

Its not as exciting as the Diego routine, but still, this is definitely a step in the Right direction as far as I am concerned. he will make us harder to beat. And also, when Chiellini is injured, or suspended, we can rest assured that the team minus Chiellini won't resemble a Serie C outfit at the back when they take to the field...Cannavaro wouldn't allow it.

Even if it is just for the one season, this will be a great signing for the club.

And as many people have already said in this thread, he knows the club, the players, the football here, and he is a vast improvement over Knezvic, Mellberg, Legro and Ariuado.

Cool response to Canna
Monday 20 April, 2009

Juventus legends Beppe Furino and Jose Altafini have reacted rather coldly to rumours suggesting the Bianconeri will re-sign Fabio Cannavaro.

Cannavaro, who left Juventus for Real Madrid in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, has reportedly been offered a four-year deal - one as a player and three as a director.

“I heard about Cannavaro and I didn't want to believe it,” Furino wrote in La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We won't discuss his achievements as a player, he is a world champion, but the years catch up with everyone.

“If Cannavaro is a sure thing at no cost whatsoever then bring him on, but there are other players that Juventus need to close the gap in Italy and in Europe.

“Have the fans forgotten the so-called “betrayal” of three years ago Footballers are professionals, Cannavaro's decision to go to Real Madrid was based on money,”
Furino explained.

“Two games will be enough for the curva to forget all in a hurry. Then again it will be difficult not to remember what happened three years ago. The Juventus of today would have players that now bring luck to other teams.”

Altafini was equally critical of Juventus' decision to go back to the future and think about entrusting their defence to the 36-year-old Italy captain.

“Why don't they re-sign Zinedine Zidane as well?” Altafini said scathingly. “They need a central midfield!

“I don't see how Cannavaro alone can resolve Juventus' defensive problems. Age counts more in defence than in any other position and Juventus' backline is already slow.

“The politics of not spending will not pay off if we want to keep up with Inter,” Altafini explained. “It will take an aggressive and courageous transfer campaign to overtake the Nerazzurri.

“As for the defence, Giorgio Chiellini has had a great season, as has Nicola Legrottaglie, so Juventus don't have a problem at centre-back. (that's highly debatable)

“What would it take for Juventus to support them with a youngster, someone like Simon Kjaer, the Dane from Palermo?

“Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, was a little tough on Cannavaro a few weeks ago, but he painted a reality - 36 years are a lot and if Napoli, his hometown club, aren't willing to take him, well…”
Altafini concluded.

Cannavaro first joined Juventus from Inter in 2004 and made 74 appearances for the Bianconeri before leaving for Spain in 2006.

dude, he's still miles ahead of all our CBs, except Chi...why the hell would he be backup
cos we can still get someone who's not on the decline. One who can be a regular starter. It's time for us to move on and leave the past alone! If he wants to sit on the bench and teach the kids, then fine. But if this was the players that Secco apparently talked about, then it's very disappointing.

agree with Sheikh, I want to avoid this transfer completely...if the youth team or our defence need guidance, they can speak to Luca Pessoto and Ciro

Maybe if news about this came out after we bought some of the players we "need", then it wouldnt have been so hard on us, and make us think the board are falling back on their words. But since it hasnt, then we can only wonder if they'll actually buy one more defender and call it a day with regards to our defence "upgrade"! Maybe the board cannot be held responsible for the leaking of info. It doesnt change the fact that it's a bad move, other than the fact that we won't pay any transfer money!

If is true that they offered 4 year contract than im against it..I would offer max 2 with possible extension. According some Italian media CR was against this.
Maybe cos of length of contract, maybe cos it will bring some extra negative fire in dressing room..
